2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

We don't get a chance at D'Angelo Russell type guys through free agency. Honestly, we usually don't get a chance at guys like him period. I think it's worth the gamble. Seems like he would be a good fit next to Donovan.

Why... he won't get max? He will follow the money all things being equal. He'd have a good opportunity to grow with our team too. I'm not following at all.

BKN may not match because they are pushing for "stars" and they will have LeVert and Dinwiddie under contract. Although, they got Spencer at a number that is perfectly fine for an elite bench player.

I'm like 99% sure Russell is not one that Locke thinks we'd pursue and was kinda just throwing and example against the wall. I think he's the type that I'd be excited but nervous if we got... then once we got him all his flaws would drive me crazy.

He's still a fun guy to watch... but I don't know if he's as fun when he's on your team.

I was saying that I like the idea of Russell.

I was referring to the "we don't get a shot at guys like Russell in FA" comment. I think we'd have a shot if we wanted.

I said that because I believe our approach should be via trade. I don't believe that Russell is going to sign a fair contract with us this summer. He might sign a bloated contract because I think we would have to overpay to get his attention AND have Brooklyn pass on matching. I would rather trade for him now than make that gamble.

I'm not as tied to our first rounder as some seem to be. We need players who can play right now over another project like Bradley or Grayson. And yes, that means I expect us to be in the 20's with our pick.

The only way you get Russell is to max him. The Nets have no one else to pay now and Dinwiddie just signed a team friendly contract.

I agree. And I think that is a terrible idea for us.

If he is available for a trade, we let the market dictate his value in the summer. We can either match, or let him walk.

Rubio, Bradley and some kind of draft compensation for Russell and Crabbe could make sense for both sides. They clear off Crabbe and move on with Dinwiddie.

Let’s trade Exum for Fultz.

- Exum gets to go somewhere “away from Quin” and play with his BFF Simmons.
- Exum pimpers can move over to Sixers forums where they can ride Simmons’ and Exum’s nuts 24/7.
- JFC gets a new whipping boy that doesn’t come with a bunch of trolls and homers.
- Jazz effectively shave a year off Exum’s deal by exercising the termination option on Fultz after next year.
- Homey gets to keep us apprised of the Stars’ title hunt.
- Neto can get a confidence boost knowing he’s higher on the depth chart than a former first pick.
76ers want people who can shoot. That and you need help with your Exum hate.

Rubio, Thabo, Bradley and our lottery protected 2019 1st for Russell and Crabbe

Way too much. The chance that he gets a bloated offer will still be there... that’s what FA is for markets other than LA, Miami and sometimes Boston... overpaying for guys that may get better and be worth big money. Unless you want to play in the MLE and lower market.

You can’t push all in on a guy like Russell... has too many red flags. We may get another project with our first rounder or we may get a Rudy or Kuzma or a Siakam... I’m not opposed to trading our pick for a more certain player but Russell has some significant red flags... injury, maturity, and he just might not be really good.

So... in that Exum draft, had we had the 2nd pick, would we not have taken Jabari?

Absolutely YES right?

Then why not swap Exum for Jabari now? What's the harm?
