I'm really unsure about Lowry, here's a quick summary of the pros and cons that I have both from watching him and checking the stats
+ He clearly makes the Raptors better from an eye test standpoint, and his on/off stats support that. Raptors are +14 points per 100 better with him on the floor vs off
+ Despite having a down year his TS% is still far better than Rubios on the season
+ He's a great floor general on both sides of the ball
+ His contract situation isn't as bad as you'd think, he gets paid $33 mil next season sure but it's a $33 mil expiring and it expires the offseason before the Jazz will be giving Mitchell his (super)max. So unlike guys like Conley/Griffin/Love, you're not locking yourself into that core once Mitchell gets his max, you'll have an offseason after Lowry is off the books to figure it out before giving him the extension later that year in October.
+ Lowry has a fantastic 3.23 AST/TO ratio.
+ He does a lot of little things/dirty work that a lot of players don't want to do.
+ He's fine in a slower pace system like the Jazz.
- He might be even worse than Rubio when it comes to getting into the paint. Lowry has higher %s on shots there, but the dude has a lower % of points in the paint (26.1%) than Rubio (30.7%) does for the season relative to where they score their points in general, and the inability to get easy looks in the paint has been one of my criticisms of the Jazz in general. For a comparison, DM gets 42.8% of his points in the paint, Jrue Holiday gets 53.1% of his points in the paint (largely unassisted too btw), and Exum gets 56.9% of his points in the paint.
- His 3pt shooting has fell of a cliff this year all the way down to 32.6% on the season. Whether that's an anomoly or that's him starting to get old is a real concern for a guy who as previously mentioned doesn't get into the paint much (see next point)
- Lowry has missed time already this season with a back injury, and
this report suggests that his back issues will be plaguing him all season. Do the Jazz really want to give up Rubio/Favs and draft compensation for a guy who isn't 100%?
- $33 mil is expiring but it's still a lot of cap to have soaked up in one guy next season if he's not all that good/injured.
- He's been known to become a non-factor in playoff games before.
