Numberica

Derrick Favors / Boris Diaw
Marvin Williams / Jeremy Evans
Gordon Hayward
Raja Bell / Gordan Giricek
Jordan Clarkson

vs.

Troat Guru

Greg Ostertag
Andre Kirilenko / Ben Poquette
Bojan Bogdanovic
Alec Burks / C.J. Miles
Mo Williams / Sundiata Gaines

I mostly think having a dedicated PG is overrated, but Numb's team could really use one, especially with how unskilled his wings and bigs are (besides Hayward).

Was Mo that much different from Clarkson though?
Yeah. Mo was never a true PG by any means, but he was a steadier hand than Clarkson. Clarkson is largely an attack first guy, though he does have talented drive and dish ability, but it's not his main role. And Troat has Burks/Bojan/Andrei who all have varying levels of creation. It's just hard to win anything when you only have two on-ball creators.

I would cringe everytume Bogey handled the ball. He’s not a very good playmaker other than creating his own shot. Even then there was a good chance he’d torn the ball over.

Also, kirilenko, while he is a good passer, get him in traffic and he lost the ball more than any other jazz player I could remember. Of all those wings Hayward is by far the most skilled playmaker and that wins this for Numberica. He and Clarkson fit so well together.

Yeah, that is true, but he can still do something in certain spots on the court. Gordon G and Raja B aint doing ish with the ball anywhere on the court.

Overview

Rotation (simplified, players will be shifting "positions"):

Clarkson (36)
Bell (32) / Giricek (24)
Hayward (36) / Evans (24)
Marvin Williams (32)
Favors (32) / Diaw (24)

The major themes of my team are:

-Positionless basketball and switchability on defense
-Spacing
-Defense on the perimeter and at the rim

Two of three of Hayward, Clarkson, and Diaw will be on the floor at all times so that there is always sufficient playmaking and passing. The bread and butter of the offense will be PnR with Favors and/or horns sets with Diaw as a secondary hub.

The defense is anchored by athletic "bigs" (except Diaw, but who is very savvy) and there will always be a rim protector. This allows for straight-up schemes, switch-everything, aggressive trapping, doubling, and ball-denial schemes.

Favors will be surrounded by shooters for most of the time he's on the floor. He beasts in the rare circumstance he's been both healthy and had four spacers.

Evans will play alongside Diaw as much as possible and alongside Favors as little as possible (spacing). With spacing and versatile defenders around him, he can play to his strengths; dunking everything and protecting the rim (he averaged 4 blocks per 36 in '12/'13).

Plan for Troat Guru:

-I will toggle between Marv, Evans, Diaw, and Hayward on AK with the goal of both keeping AK guessing and to see who matches up with him best and to then lock-in to that matchup as much as possible.
-Guard Bojan tight and smart. The main objectives would be to keep Bojan from shooting threes and send doubles whenever possible since he is not the greatest or most wiling passer.
-Clarkson-Favors high PnR since Mo is a weak defender and Tag is a stiff. This will take extra priority when/if AK is on Hayward since AK will either have to stay home on Hayward or it would open Hayward up if AK helps.
-Attack Bojan whenever possible on offense, especially if/when he's guarding Hayward.

Numberica has built a very nice team (he isn't the first seed coincidentally) , but I think he has a big flaw in his PG spot.
I really like Clarkson but he isn't a pure PG, IMO Hayward is the best (and the only) playmaker Numb has in his team.
Moreover IMO AK can guard pretty well Hayward, Numberica's best scorer.
Tu sum up I think this would be a great series, but I think my team would have more chances as it is more solid and has more alternatives.

Clarkson has never heard of the word pass, Hayward should be the 1 on this team but it's not like he's a great distributor in his own right. This is a tough matchup for sure as both teams best guys almost cancel each other out.

Hayward was the #1 option on a playoff team that won a series. He could get his own shot.

I trust that more than I trust Bogey to be a number one option and get his own shot. Or AK lmfao.

Yeah, plus Burks against meh players can get a shot. He didn't fit in the system a lot but he could score even in the playoffs when you let him go.

Healthy favors would own that other **** center.
I wouldn’t call Ostertag a **** center. He always did a great job clogging the middle on defense, and better than decent rim protector and could move better than 85-90% of all the centers the jazz ever had that were 7-0+ and always felt more comfortable with him in for his defense than when he sat. His biggest flaws were that he didn’t always give his best and maybe a bit lackadaisical as far as his craft is concerned. This is why he and Sloan clashed all the time, because Sloan new how good he could be. When Ostertag was motivated, he was damn good, he just wasn’t always very motivated. Which is why he was so much better in the playoffs.

Outside of AK and Ostertag, Troat's team has abysmal defense. My team can also run Tag off the floor.
