The Jazz have had a habit of drafting older players with the idea that they're more ready to contribute. But then those rookies don't really play in their first or second season anyway, which means the Jazz could have developed a younger, more talented player instead.
For example, Grayson Allen was older and more "ready to contribute" than Anfernee Simons and Gary Trent Jr., but in reality he didn't actually contribute more in his first few seasons than those other guys. Dok and Hughes didn't play at all last this year.

You better hope like hell he comes back or gets us something in a trade. Because if he doesn't, you have zero authority to chastise people like you do around here.
If your bragging rights for Conley only rest on that career achievement all star appearance....

Seeing as I'm the original "Kuzma is a 1st round" pick before anyone had him mocked as a drafted player, yeah, I think I do.
The guys we sent out -- Grayson Allen, Jae Crowder, and the guys who could have been picked--Darius Bazley, Brandon Clarke, haven't done that much.

Of course not, but the dude is pretty nasty for an undersized player. Has that pesky defense and shooting ability those guys need to get by, like a Jose Juan Barea or Campazzo.
If he leaves or not, the process was sound. You put your chips in and play to win. The Jazz underpaid for an All-Star level player. You don't play to forever wait for the next year. The Jazz had their best shot since Stockton/Malone to win it all and injuries ****ed them hard. It sucks but it is what it is. To say they shouldnt have done the trade because of that is ludicrous. The only mistake is that they didnt do it sooner.

The pick next year needs to be included there. There was also an opportunity cost with some of the cap space we could have cleared.
Not saying it was or wasn't worth it... just saying you've only presented part of the cost.

The Jazz overpaid for a player who wasn't All-Star level. We made him All-Star level. Without riding the coattails of Don and Rudy and a respectable career, he was never going to be an All-Star. So you can't say we paid that much for an All-Star level player.
I agree that we needed to make a strong play, but Conley wasn't the right play. Spend more and get Jrue. Get a player that actually makes sense next to Don in the playoffs.
The Conley trade was a mistake. If he stays, he can salvage some. If he doesn't, it's a catastrophe.
I was also right about Conley coming back strong and having a monster year after you were capping to trade him for crumbs...
I'll probably continue to be more right than wrong when it comes to NBA draft stuff. Jalen Harris was my big call last draft and he scored 31 points in the final game of the year.
