It works okay(ish) for the sims, but I always take the totality of their career into consideration whenever we do these things.

You just basically assume each player at their peak. It's just to make sure people don't spout stupid **** like "yeah but Bird fell apart at the end, could barely run.. He'd get killed!" Because, face it, literally everyone is teetering on the edge of derpy all the time. So by stressing a year, even if you don't go look what they did that year, you at least get it in your head that it means this player's best year.
