2023 NBA Draft Megathread

If we are doing the would you rather thing... I think the right question is - if the Minny pick lands at say #16, how many picks would you add to get a pick in the 8-10 range... regardless of where our own pick landed.

#16, 2025 Cavs pick, Lakers pick seems like the line for me...Would need to be pretty sold on whoever it was we were trying to get.
I mean 4-16 is a complete crapshoot as of now. Guys like the Thompson twins could land anywhere between 4 to 10th pick and beyond. Why would you give up assets to move up if you know there's a very good chance that some guy you want in the top 10 could still be available past the lottery and the 13th pick of the draft could land you a better prospect than guys in the top 10?

Like if we trade the Philly's pick to move into the top 10 to take Hendrick, when he could've been available in the teens anyways?

Nice.

I see a lot of Damian Lillard in him. His build, the way he's willing to take long 3s. Attacking the rim. I mean you wouldn't really call Lillard or Curry pure point guards neither would you? Remember Curry coming out of college? I think he was more of a scoring guard too IIRC...

Yeah I think I can see him growing into that role.

Reminds me a bit of Markelle Fultz or even some Devin Booker.

I've heard somewhere that during the draft every good GMs know more or less what the other GMs' draft boards looks like.

So I think DA would have a pretty good idea where Hendrick's gonna go.

I would do Minny+Sixers picks for Hendrick in a heartbeat if I know he won't reach 16.

There are guys with a more narrow range… cam, Thomason’s, walker are more 4-9 range… if you wanted two of those guy or didn’t think black or Wallace would last to 16… then you’d try to move up

Not really in love with the mid to later lotto guys in this draft. Not sure what I'd do with our pick as of now. Probably like Walker the best, but not exactly what we're looking for. Take him and look for a lead guard in the future I guess. Victor/Scoot/Miller look great if we move up (as players, obviously ownership should do a deep dive on Miller).

Jordan Hawkins is a guy I like in the mid to later first with one of our other picks.

The thing is... If you have two way wings that can create, you don't really need a lead guard. Lakers won a chip with Caruso running the point cuz they got Lebron. Celtics is a contender right now with Smart as the starting PG cuz they got Tatum/Brown. Fisher got 5 chips as the PG of the Lakers but we know who's really running the show.

If you have a chance to get a dynamic wing, you absolutely prioritize it over any other positional needs, especially in today's NBA

Yeah but remember the dark days when DL bid against himself by taking Bradley/Dok in the first round...... I guess he wasn't on the list of "good GMs"

Agreed, substitute lead guard with lead perimeter player.

But my thought stays the same, I see basically Scoot and Miller who meet that in this draft (maybe the Thompsons, but I have no idea how to scout those dudes).

Assuming we like Thompson twins/Cam/Walker so much more than the likes of Hendrick/Black/Dick/Sissoko then yes I guess. But talent wise I see these guys as extremely comparable and would be happy to take any of those guys available

My assumption is that Ainge will know exactly who he wants out of this draft, have a very good idea where that player will be drafted, and will be aggressive to get them. If he needs to move up to get them, he may not be able to, but I'm sure he will try.

I don't picture Ainge with a list of prospects in order of preference and crossing names off his board until it's our turn. We really have to nail this pick, and I don't picture Ainge leaving it up to chance. I think this draft will be a little different than what we have been used to in previous years.
