2023 NBA Draft Megathread

he is 6'6 and he wasn't 6' this time last year smh. you got a lot of bs to support your arguments imo. the take on Giddey isn't bad, but Black is what he is and that isn't good enough for 9th
I read that he shot up 6" last year earlier in this thread. Just part of the echo chamber I guess.

Most mocks have black in the lottery and many have him at 9 or before. So... we will see if the league agrees or not.

Even if it is close I’ll take the 6’6 (w/o shoes) player with a 6’7.5 wingspan over a 6’2.5 (w/o shoes) player with a 6’8.5 wingspan all day.
Ya if it was only size and defense then i would lean slightly in favor of black. If I add shooting, assists and turnovers then I sway back over to Wallace.

Wallace beats him in almost every category that Eliza put and he is 4” shorter. That tells me a lot.

I think some of you are going to be in for a rude awakening on draft night when Black goes top-8 and Wallace falls to the late lottery.
Even if he does as projected go top 10, which would not surprise me, given how many orgs pick for tank commandos. it does not make him a great prospect for the Utah org.
I mean If they really are in the business of just adding some projects to this roster or more specifically a prospect like Black who is nothing more than a defender with size at the 1 that can pass some, but cannot score, hell cannot reliably even shoot. Then they are far more likely to target Sidy at 16 who when on ball showed just as much playmaking if not more than Black, has a more promising shot mechanics, than overpay for a similar archetype. The take he is def a pg is pretty much a joke to me. He is a wing that has playmaking skills that got handed the keys in college and did ok but nothing special at all given the opportunities he had.

When you throw a guy in the corner, or when you get a guy to be 3 and D for that matter, dont you want them to space the floor and knock down threes? Black only attempted 2.6 threes per game in 35 minutes and made them at 30% clip (they were probably wide open too). I mean if im playing against Blacks team then im HOPING that his team has him chillin on the three point line without the ball. I would tell my players to not even guard him. Leave him open out there and hope he shoots it. Beg him to shoot it.

Man I just looked at his stats for the first time and im surpised how poor they are. Played lots of minutes (35 per game) so I expected high assist numbers if nothing else. 3.9 assists is WAY less than I was expecting. 5 rebounds is decent. 70.5% from the free throw line isn't going to cut it. 45% from the field is a little subpar for me. 30% from three isn't good. 3 turnovers per game is bad. 2.1 steals is great though.

From what I can tell looking at stats is that Black is a poor shooter, doesn't get many assists, turns it over too much (basically same amount of turnovers vs assists), is a decent rebounder and good defender with good size. That aint doing it for me. I was shocked by the assist to turnover ratio. I knew he was a poor shooter but thought he would average like 8 or 9 assists and 1-2 turnovers. I was already sour on him but now even more so.
He’s been billed as this floor general and I have seen 0 indication he should be spoken of in such terms. He makes good reads, is unselfish, and sees the floor well. Great. But he’s nowhere near Alonzo Ball or Josh Giddey or whatever ridiculous comp in that vein.
