2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Players are drafted where their market value puts them. Rupert is probably going to get drafted in the 20s. Same with Cissoko. Same with GG. Even if you love a player, there's no reason to take him at 9 or 16 if you can get him at 25.
I generally agree, but this draft is pretty flat across a wide range, so you might have to draft a guy at 9 who could be there at 16.

There’s a 50/50 chance he’s not in the league in a few years….

That's fine. If you believe in his upside, you take him for the 50% chance that he pans out. Look at the Jazz's recent draft picks -- Dok, Jared Butler, Elijah Hughes, etc. A 50% success rate would be over-performing at this point.

Right… that’s not a swing pick then. You’re advocating for Bilal at 9 when we could get him lower. A swing pick is taking someone higher than consensus due to their upside and potential.

I don't think Hendricks is that special. For example, I don't think he's like Mikal Bridges. It's hard for players to players to develop a handle, passing and mid-range shooting if they haven't already shown signs of it entering the league.

If he hits and becomes a star, I'll send you a bottle of Johnnie Walker black-label whiskey anywhere in the country.
Bridges isn't a star either supposedly... and was the most 3 and D guy in all the land early in his career... he built out some other stuff... Taylor may not do that but most people would not have guessed Bridges would either.

I don't drink... so I'll pass on your whiskey... you will need it more than me when trying to get through the GG Jackson G league games (I'm messing and not trying to be mean here)

Bilal's expected draft range is 9 - 13. The Jazz taking him at 9 isn't really outside his range. If the Jazz can get #10 from Dallas and take him there, then fine, that works too.

I don't drink either. I just made that up. I got through tracking Jarrell Brantley in the G-league, so I'm prepared.
