2024-2025 Tank Race

Important stretch for the Tank. We play Detroit, Brooklyn, and Portland in 3 of our next 4. A goose egg on the next 4 would set the table for increasing the bottom 3 shot.
Probably gonna win all 3 smh. Jazz are too healthy

Too much panicking about this win streak, this is top 2 or bust and those odds are near constant 1-4.

The one negative is that there are 8 teams trying to tank right now and only two of them will get a top 2 pick so six will go home disappointed... But just need to be one of the four worst teams to get good enough odds.

UTA wins by 11
DET wins by 8
POR loses by 20
NOP loses by 11
CHI loses by 25
PHI loses by 27
WAS loses by 11

Clarkson having a much better season so far than last year. Not sure it's good enough to convince a team of his value, but he's been a solid player.

But that's the point: the Jazz are currently having worse record than several teams with starting guards on about the same level. And the frontcourt of Kessler-Collins-Lauri is better than quite a few frontcourts. If the Jazz rotation remains the same they will start catching up with the Blazers, Raptors, Hornets, Pistons and Nets pretty soon.
No they wont.

Jazz have won 2 of their last 14 games. They play in the West. Relax.

They will eventually play more and more of the young guye.
Do you still feel the same way?

Fwiw,

Where the top 20 players (according to the HNI -- Huge Nerd Index, an averaging of seven all-in-one rankings of players) of the 2024-2025 season thus far were drafted:

1 (3 players)
3 (4 players)
4
7
8
11 (2 players)
12
15
16 (2 players)
29
30
33
41

11 of these are with the team that drafted them, 9 are with their second or subsequent team.

(Interpret these numbers to confirm your viewpoint.)

Jazz should be able to finagle their way to a bottom 4 record by the end of the season. Charlotte is a serious and unforeseen challenger, however.

With Cody Williams in the G-League, Tidjane Salaun is easily the worst player in the NBA and he's just destroying the team for 20 minutes a night.

Salaun is a bad defender shooting 32% from the field and 29% from three.

Yeah, well, Idk. We have 55 games left, and things can easily get out of hand. I mean, if our goal is to draft a top prospect in the 2025 draft, it seems like we're not going about it as effectively as we could. Non-playoff teams know this draft class has more potential stars than usual and don’t want to miss out on this opportunity. They’ll use (and some teams are already using) various moves and strategies to maximize their lottery odds. We have a great chance to do the same, but we’re not doing it because we're not playing our young guys (Cody, Flip, Collier, Brice) enough. And, as far as I’m concerned, Sexton, Clarkson, and Collins absolutely need to be on the trade block. We’re a few years away from being a contender team. I don’t see any of them on it. And since there’s a good chance we’ll tank again next season, it makes even less sense to keep those players. Aside from maybe a couple of our current young guys, Lauri is the only player we should try to keep around because he’d be great to have when we're finally contending at some point, hopefully in 3-4 years. When it comes to tanking this season, I’d hate to see other teams outsmart us.

I can almost guarantee that Sexton, Clarkson, and Collins are all on the trade block, and since they are on the trade block you probably want to play them a lot as well. Unfortunately for the tank I don't see Ainge making a deal until the deadline so I think we are in the danger zone of getting wins for another month or so.

The good news for the tank is after the trade deadline, I don't see any problems with winning too many games once we start playing our rookies more.

So why are we playing Svi and Eubanks then? To pump their trade value as well? Their minutes could have been easily filled by Flip, Collier and Cody and it could have easily made a difference last game.

No, the real answer is that the Jazz are simply playing for the wins by using their best available players. It is obviously what Ainge and Hardy want.

Right, but every game matters in a tank race. While we're playing Sexton, Clarkson, and Collins, we could also give our young guys more minutes. Now we have games where they play very little or don’t play at all. Anyway, I hope Danny can find a trading partner or partners sooner rather than just before the deadline.
