2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

I want us to move Sexton simply because I don’t see him on our next contending team. Plus, he, along with Clarkson and Collins, threatens our tank. Lots of games left. And tanking for the top guys in the draft will heat up after the trade deadline. We finally have an opportunity to draft a stud prospect. I want us to maximize our chances. If I were Danny and could find a trade partner, I would definitely trade Sexton (or Clarkson or Collins) in our situation.

I don’t see anyone on this roster as being on our next contending team. It’s been sad.

Houston only has 4 main guys in their rotation who has a positive offense box plus minus which is insane given they are currently 12-6 and sitting 3rd spot in a stacked WCF. They are an elite defensive team(3rd best) but very average on offense(15th).Tonight they just shot 35% and lost a very winnable game in portland.

I'd see them as one of the bigger buyers for offensive players like Sexton/JCs. Getting rid of Dillon Brooks and his 2yr contract would also be priority for them as they really don't need him when Eason/Amen simply do everything he does and better.

Collins or Sexton for Brooks/Whitmore and their 2029 FRP works. Or we give them 2 JCs for Jabari Smith/Whitmore/Brooks and 2029 FRP. Houston add the offense that they desperately need for their playoff push and we get two projects and draft capital to boost our rebuild.

At the start of last year he had negative value very clearly. While we want to continue to point out his flaws he has made clear progress with many things and been fairly consistent and healthy. Midway through the year last year he was definitely positive. Now this ain’t Zillow but you can simply look at the trends from last year in his play and with better play comes better value (shocking I know). I know there aren’t any players that live up to your lofty standards but even you should throw a few worthless firsts in the 2025 draft out for him (since you don’t believe in the draft either).

If you can’t open up basketball reference and understand the progress Collin has made then don’t talk to me about basketball TIA.
Obviously Collin has had stretches of good, positive basketball. Nobody's denying that. But as I said, this is a pretty conservative league and once you get a reputation, it's very hard to change it. That's the main thing affecting your market value.

Making matters worse (for him) is that Collin's player type is simply not in vogue. It doesn't mean that there isn't a role for him out there, but very small SG's are not high on anyone's shopping list these days. I think both the Jazz and Collin himself are well aware of that, but the PG experiments have not been succesful. He's a scorer through and through.

Teams don't look at Sexton's occasionally improved advanced stats in a vacuum. They know he's played a lot with Lauri, one of the best off-ball gravity guys / spacers in the league. Olynyk too. Either you use Collin as a rapid fire bench scorer with a very limited role (which makes the most sense for 99% of NBA teams) or you give him the ball, surround him with good shooters and tell him to go crazy.

Nobody is going to give him the latter role these days, not if they're already in possession of said good shooters – i.e. they're not tanking.

The good news with Sexton is that he is on fire from 3.

I think coming into the season there where three ways Sexton could increase his value: play a big role on a winner, shoot more 3s, and shoot a higher % from 3.

I think if he starts taking a higher volume of 3s then he's a really attractive trade piece to a lot of teams

Their ‘25 pick is top-6 protected, which means if they basically stay where they’re at for the rest of the season are likely to keep it. We can’t allow that since they can edge us back in the standings, and if they decide they WANT to lose games will succeed.
I don't see any world that philly doesn't tank if they stay down through Dec.

1 - 6 protected isn't entirely in their control but they suck.

Agreed. He's shooting near 46% from 3 this season and not sure if that even included last night's game. If turds like Cam Payne and Kevin Porter Jr are getting rotation minutes on playoff teams there should be value in Sexton. It seems too he is getting that shot up quicker, and obviously making them at a really good clip.

Only caught small snippets of the Knick game but saw he also made a few really good passes to Lauri and Kessler that directly led to baskets. It's baby steps but the floor game has improved over the last 2 seasons in Utah. Just checked the boxscore and he actually had 5 assists last night. That's something we didn't see from him until this year.

Those turds are minimum contract players.

And yes, we saw Sexton get 5 assist last year. He averaged more assist last year than this year, so that statement is completely nonsensical.

Still think the Clippers a ton of sense for John Collins with how well he is playing. Knowing Balmer, he might want to put the gas pedal down.

Only way it works logistically is if they are ready to move on from Mann. Mann and Tucker would work. Terrence has been untouchable in the past but has sucked this year so maybe he is more available.
