2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

Im giong through and reading your Cody pre-draft takes....

Hopefully they come true, but your pre-draft evaluation of him was so far off. Currently he's just a length based player without any of the attributes you really gave him.

He still has the handle, the ability to change directions, the ability to score in different ways at the rim, the potential to develop iso scoring. He showed two nice drives last night. He just isn't making his jump shots yet. If he were making more of his 3s every night, people would probably be in a good mood right now.

Lmao, just stop already, from what we’ve seen through 6 games and you are still saying he has handles is staggering, and he isn’t just missing his 3 ball but he’s missing the rim half the time. He’s losing his handle on routine dribbles, and doesn’t create any space whatsoever so far he looks worse than Exum

These are the kinds of flashes everyone wanted to see from Cody.

My thoughts on the rookies a few games in:

Risacher - Zero aura, but he’ll probably be a good player similar to Otto Porter Jr.
Sarr - Extremely active, more effective on defense but it gets ugly on offense. I think he will end up a good defender with iffy, chucking style offense
Sheppard - Buried in the rotation. Not confident enough to make an impact.
Castle - Kind of a boring player to watch, but looking like he’ll be an effective defensive guard like Nembhard.
Holland - Energizer Bunny, no skills
Salaun - Been injured, but super active when he’s played.
Clingan - Extremely slow, but effective. Chases blocks like candy.
Dillingham - DNP CD king
Edey - OK PnR target and rebounder. That’s about it. Not a good defender.
Cody - comatose
Buzelis - see Dillingham
Carrington - will take some time but plays smart and can with effort
Knecht - great addition to the Lakers
Kyshawn - Looks great, ball does not go in
Mogbo - Good energy big with some skill
Dunn - How tf can he shoot now???
Flip - The true Lisan Al Ghaib

A year ago, there were people on this forum trying to take a lap over the idea that Coulibaly was going to be nothing special. In Coulibaly's first 5 NBA games, he averaged 5 pts and shot 28% (4/14) from 3. Bilal also came in more physically developed and with more high-level experience from Europe. It takes these young kids time to put themselves together as NBA players.

For those keeping score at home, below shows what Bilal looks like today.

If Cody was elite physically and had a very high motor he’d be Bilal, but he’s not. He is not particularly close in those areas either. Very different prospects.

It’s going to be interesting to watch McCain as his role grows. What’s interesting is that he’s succeeding not because he’s been a lights out shooter, but because of his ability to get to the rim and score. I may have been blinded by his shooting and unfairly put him into a box.
