2025-2026 Tank Race Prediction Contest and Current Results Thread

Agreed. Which sucks for us. We will have a hard time putting a worse team on the floor than most of those teams, if not all of them.
We should have started actively trying to lose games from game 1 dang it.
We'll have miss almost every D assignment AND miss abut 20 open layups just to get a little chance to lose a game against 5 of those 6 teams.... and Mavs can always sit Flagg for any given reason... holy crap... that would be less than 1 in 4...

I sort of think the NBA might give a call to all the tanking teams to start benching their players instead of doing mid game tanking. The idea behind forcing the stars to play is to sell tickets, but it feels like the larger problem right now is all the gambling. People are making prop bets on the fly like crazy and getting very angry when the player they bet on starts sitting. When Lauri doesn't play in a game, it's no problem gambling wise as long as it's disclosed in a timely manner. When Lauri only plays 25 minutes it creates chaos for addicts betting on his over/under rebounds.
Then imo they need to do more of this, to help disrupt this very damaging industry. If they do that enough, more people will stop placing these kinds of bets. Gambling is crazy addictive, on the order of heroin realistically, and just as damaging to people's lives, if not more so. I have a nephew that got sucked up in this, he has an addictive personality as it was, having previously dealt with addiction to heroin and meth, and when he got sucked into gambling online it ruined him. Took him twice as long to break free as from meth, and he told me it was way harder to quit because it was at least marginally socially acceptable and so easy to access. We are at the beginning of the next plague on our society with this ****. Something really needs to be done about it.

Well, for sure we came out of the deadline with less tanking power... which always was a logic output since we are ahead of a bunch of other teams in the rebuilding process.
That's why you've got to suck since day 1 all the way to the deadline.
We're stuck at 6 or 7 worst I guess... is that more or less one chance in four at a top 3 pick?
Less. The best odds are 14%, so 1 in 7. Worse than rolling a single die. That is why not a single bottom ranked team at the end of the season has ended up with the top pick since the change to the lottery. The best I think any bottom ranked team has done in the lottery is 2nd and that was only like once or twice. Another way to look at it is there is an 86% chance some other team will win the top spot. Hence why we have seen so many lower-odds team getting the top spot.

But no matter where we end up the best we can hope for in a strong draft is 5th. The league will make sure that the higher-earning teams will get the better players. Maybe in a crappy draft we could hope for a top 3 pick, but that depends on who else is in the lottery. Any chance the league has to put top talent in legacy franchises or bigger markets or higher earning teams, then that is where they will go.

No lol... the heat wouldn't be as bad because you did it when no one was watching. If you listen to the discourse about the Jazz at all, you would hear an assumption that we have been doing this all year which isn't remotely true. Its also odd that Kings, Pacers (loads of talent), Wiz have done the exact same thing we did MULTIPLE times this week. And the Eye of Sauron has been fixed on us since UPROARgate that started a couple months ago.

Its wild that Indiana benched a two-way player who had like 24 pts in 17 minutes on a night they were benching 5 of the 6 best players on their roster... and there has been no mention at all.
You can bet the friggin' Maia will damn all of our lottery combinations.

I respect your take but I think individual games are less relevant than where we stand and whether we should be there or not. Nets and Wizards have trash rosters so they are excused. Kangz are Kangz and NOP being bad cannot be justified by draft tanking. Indy has Haliburton out for the whole year.

Everyone else have better excuses than us. Thats why they target us. Its not some weird conspiracy or anomaly, its justified.

But we were the worst team in the league last year, traded away a few of our best players from that worst team in the league last year and our rookie draft pick couldn't even make the rookie all star team. So by that logic, we should suck really bad.

We really haven’t done anything other teams haven’t and haven’t been nearly as extreme in most cases but we tend to get all the attention which is wild. Again and for the thousandth time this season… this is one of the reasons you do your work early.
A lot of the talk about this on social media is pretty ridiculous. What else should our front office have done when the other tanking teams are doing the same things? Twiddle thumbs and do nothing?

I kind of get why Utah gets more ire. They have two all-stars on the roster and a 3rd year player who looks like a future all-star along with a center who could be first team all defense. The level of the talent on the Jazz's roster doesn't need a top 4 pick as much as other bad teams do.

Maybe instead of a lottery the NBA should have teams pitch their case for needing to add talent each year to determine draft order.

I guess the Wiz have a worse roster... but only because they won't play Trae or AD if they are healthy. They are doing the same stuff we are to juice their losses. Indiana has loads of talent and started the season with a rash of injuries. If they played it close to straight they'd be well over .500 the rest of the season... just like us.

Even the Kangz have pulled the plus on 3 close games in a week's time. They were just normal bad before that. Though Sabonis took his time.

There are just no ethics in tanking. Period. Its not more ethical to trade players than to rest them. Its not more ethical to stop playing your starters after 3 quarters than to just sit them out entirely. Youth movements and development are common for March/April. Like we didn't invent this.

I don't think they can actually unilaterally do anything about it at the AS break. But the threat of action, attention, and competition was always why you needed to lean into dev early in the season rather than "tank later". These are all things I warned about. If we change directions a bit because of league office pressure and it actually causes us to lose the pick it will be so dumb.
