2025 Off-Season Trade Ideas Thread

Assuming Ace pans out as their lengthy off ball primary shooter it does overlap with Lauri's skillset. I expect Ace to be the better defender.

The plan might be to spotlight Lauri the first 6-8 weeks of the season and then trade him? They need to make sure the guards get him the ball though. In the meantime it's hard to feel too bad for a guy making superstar type money.

Not a believer in Lauri loving basketball and feeling a burning desire to compete in his prime years?

(BTW, he's not making 2025 superstar money. Not even close.)

Interesting but Windhorst said he knows that Lauri didn't sign up for this
That's the opposite of what all the local reporters have said. Honestly it was surprising when they said he was on board with multiple years of tanking, so I'm not sure who to believe.

If Lauri wasn't on board with tanking, I wouldn't blame him, but then he shouldn't have signed his contract late so that he couldn't have been traded last season.

I mean, I think everyone kind of leans towards best case scenario happenining. Lauri probably thought we were getting Flagg too, or would get better players in the drafts than Hendricks/Williams.

Yeah, intentionally waiting to sign after the date where we could trade him last year definitely feels like he was on board with the direction communicated to him. I definitely believe Ainge sold him on the ramp up, I bet he talked about him as the Paul Pierce in him building something like the 2008 Celtics with this Jazz. But we have had a couple setbacks (lottery, high picks not popping) and we look pretty far out still.

I think Lauri was onboard with last year. I think the team selling off Sexton/Collins/Clarkson is having him feeling frustrated. Love Lauri on this team, probably my favorite player we have ever had, but I could see us needing to set him free

Yeah, probably, but well before the lottery even happened all the local reporters including Locke were taking about a multi year tank, and I know TJ and I believe others specifically said that Lauri was on board with it.

I don't know, maybe there is more nuance to his thoughts than either side is reporting or maybe he's changed his mind.

I still think you see your friends and other vets get traded/waived and you are staring down showing up to training camp with a team that is 80% under 22 and start to feel a bit out of place.

If he plays well his value may pickup and make a trade something we can accommodate. Paging @infection to remind me of the Dante Exum fallacy here. If his play is at last year's level then I don't see us accommodating a trade as his value won't be good enough. I think this will be the last year he tolerates this level of tank and I could even see some grumbling coming. Since he is a family guy he probably prefers the trade not happen in season... I think this year we hit on the draft and maybe Ace or someone pops a little or Lauri is a goner next year.

Dude probably just wanted one more guaranteed season of calm for the family. Probably hates the tank, but hates the thought of moving the kids more.
