Meh, I don't think Kessler was actually ever on the market. If the Jazz wanted him gone, he would have been gone. There were enough teams that wanted what he brought. The Jazz weren't letting him go for even a fair offer. It’s sort of a more mild version of the decision to trade Kessler last summer. We’re probably going tank and I think Key is probably going to play at a level that is beyond replacement level. How Key is seen as prospect is one thing, but there’s definitely going to be teams that value his current value on his current money more than the Jazz do. So there’s some potential for trade there.
Even if you just see Key at a RS innings eater level, that much more valuable to a team trying to win something than a team trying to lose as much as possible.
I could not trade for him with any confidence he will figure things out. Both guys seem like they are in a race to destroy their careers and its neck and neck.Damn hope the truth comes out and justice is served.
Based on previous news stories about behavior and actions of women he's been involved with I am not jumping to label him, but the dude is a certified idiot with the PR nightmare he's been his whole career. The real Ja/Zion draft class rivalry is over who is a bigger PR headache for their team.
Want no part of the Zion experience, even if he's good value to trade for.

I think he could have been had for a "we can't turn this down" offer, but pretty much so are almost all the players in the NBA save about 10.
He's a better player than Dalton Knecht. We have an idea what Dalton's value is and it is more than the 17th pick in the current draft.I just don't know what the value would be I guess. Like say we did want another pick this draft... is it Key for 17? Too rich... too light?
I honestly don't know. He has burned two years on his rookie deal and that factors into things. Its rare guys in Key's situation get moved for solid/fair value. Usually only happens if a team is giving up and getting "something" or if they are getting something more win-now or part of a star/bigger deal. He's a better player than Dalton Knecht. If someone has examples I am all ears. I think we keep him unless we move him to move up in the draft (like we did with Trey Lyles).
He's not a max player, and that is actually attractive to teams. I think he fits in nicely to that Malik Monk slot going forward. That is a good pick at 16.I honestly don't know. Lyles is a good reference. We went from 24 to 13, and I don't Lyles was in a better spot than Key is now. One team that could make some sense is ATL at #13. #21 and Key for #13? Is that too light for us?
IIRC, ATL wanted Key in a potential DJ Murray trade. They have a new FO, but might still have interest there.
I don't know that the real front office in Atl changed lol. I think the shadow FO took over.Lyles is a good reference. We went from 24 to 13, and I don't Lyles was in a better spot than Key is now. One team that could make some sense is ATL at #13. #21 and Key for #13? Is that too light for us?

I think I would consider that type of deal if there was someone we liked there. Say Fears or Kas end up there and the FO wants to take that bet... If we like one of the wings in that draft area we don't think will be there... Bryant/Coward/Powell?
We are NOT in the business of throwing away young guys who have shown upside beyond their current production. Key is definitely one of those guys.
Besides the only teams looking to make an offer for him would be teams who believe he has levels to reach. But that is the exact scenario where we should not trade him.
There's that galaxy brain again.so if we ever were willing to make such a deal then that would signal any buyer we know something they dont.
We go Fears at 5... keep Key... take Jase at 21... trade for Trae in the offseason while keeping them all.I think the most real scenario would be if we draft Tre/Fears at 5, then we decide that Key might get in the way of their development. So probably more of a wing at 13,
Who am I kidding, we make the trade to #13 and both Kas/Jase are there but we draft Demin anyways.
Tre Johnson looks good not sure he's a number one but he could be a nice Robin to AJ or BoozerI'm really looking forward to pick#5 and a good piece via trade. jazz roster is a mystery. We can only unlock their tru potential if we get a true #1. Hopefully pick#5 can lead the team.
Sure buddy. NBA GMs never bet on potential. For them trading is like going to the supermarket where not only do the products include full ingredients list but also nutritional values and expiration dates. When you're literally one of the worst players in the NBA getting rotation minutes, your occasional flashes don't mean that much.
Now you're just getting into galaxy brain overthinking territory. Sometimes getting rid of a dude is addition by subtraction. Key (and his second contract) should be someone else's headache.
There's that galaxy brain again.
Everyone playing rotation minutes in the NBA is a known quantity. Teams either like you and/or your deal or they don't, for whatever reason. Key is an insignificant player, so involving him in trades is not some franchise-altering decision for any club.
