Open bidding war on Giannis is interesting but I'm also a bit scared if it freezes the markets. Hopefully resolution comes sooner rather than later.

Giannis can be a FA in a year. His preferred destinations can't offer anything near that kind of value. If you make a play for Giannis now it likely means he is mothballed the rest of this year so we would likely have our top 8 pick. I just can't see us doing all this for him. It might be a one year rental. He likely does not commit to an extension with us. Way too much of a YOLO proposition for me.

Take Bailey and Walker out and its still better than anything GS, Miami, or NYK can offer imo.

Apparently Knecht might get moved and LA may attach a second rounder to do it (in 2032). He makes like 4m next year. I'd make that move in a second tbh. Knecht might be nothing but the cap ramifications are basically nothing. Imagine if he became good... rub it in LA face.

And I don't have much hope for Knecht as a player but its like a 3m cap diff for a second. That's the type of deadline it will be.

We both know Ainge is already on the phone, but whether he calls with actual intentions is another matter. But who has the package, is competitive (or close) and may be willing to give up a blue chip guy? Sixers with VJ? Charlotte with Miller? Rockets with Amen?

If you want to give him a half-season tryout plus an offseason with the Jazz, then maybe. But if his options were picked up, there's more on his contract than the Jazz would want to acquire. I think he may close to approaching Jaden Springer/Luka Samanic territory. It's weird. He had moments in college where he looked like a young Brent Barry.

Giannis is just a 18 months rental to teams who don't have a serious chance of winning for the next two years. Warriors, Spurs, Rockets and the Heat are the only ones that make sense. Other contenders don't have the necessary assets to go for him.

If San Antonio gets yet another top 4 pick to use to complete a Giannis trade, I'm going to be pissed.

Because he may have like one playoff run and one year under contract after that... I think he gets to put a list out there that has some real teeth. Supposedly Knicks, Heat, GS, and Toronto (maybe) are on his list. Raps are interesting as they have the picks and a couple young guys or other good players they could send Mil way. GS basically has all their picks. Heat have Ware (down year but promising) and some other okayish prospects and 2 firsts... unless they re-route Bam somewhere. I think Mil would like Herro in a deal as he is a local kid.

Of the list teams I think Toronto, GS, Miami, NY is the order of who has the most they can and will offer. Outside of the list teams its like Atlanta could talk themselves into it. Brooklyn maybe. San Antonio or Houston maybe get spicy.

I just think if we do it... it will be at a much lower price because we are paying rental price type fees.

He has next year at 4m left. The fourth year option would be our choice. Thats like close to a minimum. If that deal is on the table you do it. He might even show enough you can just pass him off to another team for nothing later. I also don't think we do much with our cap space so would take small deals now.

We don't do the deal if Giannis won't extend. I'd take Walker out and leave in Ace. Hate to see him go, but it's an easy yes for Giannis. Jazz have a solid roster and plenty of ammo to upgrade around him going forward. It's not a crazy thought that he might extend with us (although would def be unlikely).
