2026 NBA Trade Discussion Thread

Uhh, the Spurs have the best possible package, it's Steph Castle and Dylan Harper and they can flip Castle elsewhere for more picks. I'm just scratching my head at the discourse right now. The Golden State offer is abysmal *******. Kuminga+Butler+the next three years of picks and swaps is basically net neutral because Kuminga and Butler have strongly negative value. You're basically gambling everything on the Warriors with no incentive to tank being horrendous from 2029 to 2033.

Teams that can make a good Giannis offer

-OKC
-SAS
-HOU
-ORL
-ATL

Teams that cannot: Everyone else

Barnes and CMB for Giannis is like... Fine I guess but that leaves Toronto nowhere.
I understand teams that CAN make the best offer... you have to trust the reporting a little or else you are just playing 2k. SAS/Houston/OKC are as definitively out as you can be rumored to be... by their own choosing.

Orlando needs Mil to wait for Banchero's extension to kick in this summer. Atlanta is said to be chillin too.

GS offer can be 4 picks (though one has to have reverse protections) and 3 swaps, Podz (lol), JK is an expiring deal, Jimmy... negative but somewhat offsetting penalties with Kuzma. JK is not negative... he's an expiring contract. Butler is negative for sure. Most of these star trades rely on a team being bad after giving up their future.

Toronto can offer CMB/Dick/4 firsts and the salary match gets tricky/partially negative. RJ/Poeltl isn't ideal. I might take that though and be done with the whole saga.

I mean, the GS offer is probably worse than what the Grizzlies got for Desmond Bane. Giannis is the 3rd best player in the NBA and one of the 15 best players in NBA history, this all feels like a joke to try to force Steph's last years to be less sad (though GS with Giannis replacing Jimmy is still not a contender at all and they're probably no better than when Jimmy was healthy given Giannis is a bad fit with the team)

Its not amazing. In the NBA team control will also dictate trade value. So Orlando got 4 years of Bane under contract. They got off the terrible KCP deal too. Giannis has like 1.25 years left on his deal... so its not a totally open market. When players have a list and have contract leverage then prices go down. KD is a player to look at. Brooks/Green(bad contract) and #10 pick.

If it was GS or Miami's best offer or wait... I'd probably wait. It also depends on what kind of back office promises they have made over the years to get him to sign extensions.

Missi is still a guy I'm pretty interested in out of NOP. Not sure why they have him available. Not sure if Brice/Flip are of interest to NOP but one of them plus a second? Straight up... maybe we take the Hawkins contract off their hands. That's one I think we should be kicking the tires on pretty hard.

They’re gonna trade him to LA and then win the lotto
Funnier is that they can’t get the 1st pick, but getting the 2nd pick would be even more preposterous than Flagg going to Dallas (it would mean New Orleans (Atlanta) got the 1st pick or 2nd pick AND Milwaukee gets the 1st or 2nd pick.

Cuz the most important thing in basketball is to throw the ball to your center and everything flow from that and they found their center of the future. Get with the times!!!
When you look at the on/off stuff with Missi... I think they have it backwards (at least short term).

It was something Locke floated out this morning as a hypothetical but not sure how realistic it is
Locke is a little dumb sometimes.

Milwaukee will want Ace and our ‘26 just to pick up the phone, which might actually be preferable because the alternative is trading our own picks which means you’ve crossed the Rubicon of having control of your future and are just kind of locked into your fate for at least half a decade which I never want to do again. For example, what if the substitution value for Ace is 2+ picks but he ends up being kind of a dud? Ouch.
