There shouldn't have been a presidential order to fly flags at half staff for this incident, yet the president HAS ordered it.

I was referring to the flags at this incident. When was it ordered because I have not seen anything saying that it was ordered. It's always possible I just completely missed it I guess.

I believe it was today, and probably from all the false Whitney Houston comments. This incident doesn't warrant flags at half staff in my humble opinion.

Fair enough but I think it does as it was an attack against on duty military personel on America soil.

Order just came thru today. This shooting happened about a week ago. I think he only did it now due to pressure.
 
I think it cheapens the meaning of lowing the flag. I think the flag should only be lowered when something of such magnitude occurs that it changes the trajectory of our collective lives and our nation. This event, tragic as it was, does not meet that standard.

We could end up with the flag lowered half the year or more as we try to prove vie that symbolic gesture that we care about every bad thing that happens.

I can understand that. Personally I'd include events like this where active duty military personel on American soil are targeted. If this has been 4 random people at a mall (for example) I'd be in line with you.

But differing opinions add spice.
 
Whitney Houston only ever got me to half mast anywho

I actually see this the opposite way. Service members intentionally make themselves the target of our enemies to protect the innocent.

I know English isn't your first language, but they were unarmed, not disarmed.

I'd put money on 70-80% of military members not being armed at any given moment.

From what I understand most active duty military personell are unarmed while on military bases in the US.

On a side note, 6 states have now authorized their full time National Guard members to be armed while on duty.
