#45- Knicks at Jazz 8:30 Mtn on ESPN - If at first you don't succeed, try, try again

Hekate: they haven't been to playoffs in how many years?
Jazzta: Or check out the Kings
yamers: okc rookie durrant
yamers: 20 wins
MT: the Kings don't suck because they tank
Jazzta: whar have they done with top picks
yamers: durrant 2nd year + rookie westbrook 25 wins
Hekate: Kings suck because they have ****** players and draft bad
latin: losing sucks but injuries can derail a season. plus, our roster is flawed
yamers: kings have a stupid **** owner
yamers: vivek
yamers: w/e guyus a putz
latin: we are not the kings. we have a competent front office
MT: in fact
yamers: we have a competent in-competent office
str8line: Hate to say it but Don is the reason we lost tonight. 7-21 with 5 TO
Hekate: they have been in the limbo because of Cousins too
MT: i'd argue the Kings haven't really ever tanked
MT: their FO has been signing vets to try to win for the past many seasons
latin: and draft terribly. always looking at short term solutions
Jazzta: Tanking can bring chemistry issues that's all I'm saying
Hekate: We can't expect the same performance from Mitchell every game. Other guys need to step up. Team as a whole lost it
Jazzta: it can work or it can be devastating
latin: we are not 'tanking'...yet. We've been bad
MT: it's not tanking in the coaches telling the players to lose sense
str8line: Yeah, Favors was weak.
MT: it's more simply, we're bad, there's no point in making short-term moves to try to win more games this year
latin: yup
latin: altough if there is a piece we can get for the future, we do it
Hekate: We are just doing a mini tank. lose this year, get a top 10 pick if possible in 9-10 deep draft.
str8line: Rudy had 5 ORB and 3 blocks too. Massive game.
Hekate: We aren't going to be able tank properly next year with a healthy Gobert and improved Mitchell anyway.
Jazzta: A league that rewards losing
Jazzta: how do you get over that
latin: it's been like that forever
Jazzta: I know
Hekate: you get used to it.
Hekate: I found it weird at first too
latin: it's not like soccer where a team would drop to a second division
yamers: lottery changed a bit

MT: honestly
MT: the lottery didn't really change it tbh
Jazzta: I'm not saying like soccer, but no effort has been made to change things
yamers: there has been an effort
yamers: and it was changed
MT: it's still in a bad team's best interest to lose
latin: well, they changed the odds a bit, reducing the incentive but tanking will persist
MT: less chance that it'll reap the same reward, but it's still the smartest thing to do
latin: yeah
Jazzta: I refuse to go to games while in tank mode
yamers: simulate the lottery
yamers: http://www.tankathon.com/
Jazzta: as many others I bet
yamers: ull see a lot of teams moving up
yamers: due to the changes
MT: eh
MT: I would go to games to watch Mitchell, even if I expect us to get blown out
Hekate: I don't know watching players develop is one of the reason I watch bball
Jazzta: Not me if the tanking becomes blatant
latin: if there were rules like "no team can get two top 5 picks within 3 years" maybe multi year tanks could be avoided (like Philly)
latin: but there is no real punishment for losing
yamers: you are going to see very interesting things happen
latin: usually is more subtle
Jazzta: Or set an average, the worst teams in a 5 year frame, let's see what GM has the balls to pull that off
yamers: yea there is punishment for losing
yamers: revenue
latin: the jazz is not used to it
MT: coaches and GMs lose their jobs
MT: but the jazz are more patient than most
MT: I think Mitchell's emergence is gonna keep attendance at a good enough level this year
latin: there were reports of management vs coaching not being in the same line about the rest of the season
MT: get a high draft pick, then look into improving the roster in the offseason
MT: oh really?
Jazzta: I can see that
latin: i guess it was bc DL is looking to unload some players that the staff values now
MT: interesting
Jazzta: you can't ask a coach to not compete
Hekate: prolly hood? Does that mean they have come to an aggreement?
Jazzta: or embarass him by putting up a ****** roster
Hekate: or is FO forcing his way?

Jazzta: What pick was Curry?
latin: hood, favors, JJ, burks, the non-guarantees maybe (udoh, jonas)
latin: 8 i think
Jazzta: There you go
latin: rubio and johnny freaking flynn were selected ahead
Jazzta: There it is
Jazzta: You tank for taking a crap shot in most cases
Jazzta: The jump to the NBA is also mental
Hekate: well Lebron was drafted no1
latin: yeah. we are two games from a top 5 pick
Hekate: higher the pick you have the better the chance for a superstar
latin: but the higher you select, the higher the probability of selecting a stud
Hekate: have*
Jazzta: Baring some exceptions, but how many top 3 are superstars
Jazzta: I don't know I think it's overrated and the risk of putting up a crappy roster can be detrimental
Hekate: We aren't going to make drastic changes to the roster
Jazzta: Think about the team's look to free agents too
Hekate: not anything that could keep us making us better for next year.
Jazzta: Well, we'll see what happens in the trade deadline can't wait
latin: in the last 10 years, about 14 players have been stars/fringe stars
Jazzta: Only if we stay put I'll be very dissappointed
latin: it depends on the draft too. we had a top pick in weak drafts

Jazzta: True that
Jazzta: I still can't get over drafting Burke over Giannis lol
latin: i'm expecting a move (s). several reports point out that the jazz are being very active
latin: Trey "Iverson" Burke
Jazzta: I'm all for acquiring Mirotic
Jazzta: it would help immensely
latin: sure, except for this year's pick
Hekate: I was too excited for Burke. I wanted us to go for Teague that year and when we drafted Burke I forgot all about him
Jazzta: I'm bailing out, see you next game folks
Jazzta: nice chat
latin: all right folks, going to bed
latin: yeah
latin: ya conversamos, buenas noches
Jazzta: Buenas noches latin

Gobert back, Quin shakes up the lineup and the Jazz give up 117 points at home.Simply no excuse. This team needs a major makeover.

Jazz. plz make a move. if you are gonna tank, trade players for picks. if you are trying to make the playoffs, try to improve the roster by trading favors or burks. Do something. Stop wasting this season

Just got back from the game. This team definitely needs a shake up. It's not "just" Rubio and Favors. This is a curiously cobbled together roster and I still blame most of that on Hayward and DL. Gordon should've given a heads up, DL should've anticipated it etc. etc.

But now I'm even more curious about a guy like Kemba beside Donovan. This would mean trading Rubio, but two ball-dominant guys that can run an offense and create their own shot? Sign me up. I still think Rubio gets too much space to shoot... everything was gunked up on offense.

Frustrating. We've seen what Quin can do. He needs a better roster IMO.

watching the replay now...

Trey Burke looks so small out there. I will never understand what the Jazz were doing in that draft.
It wasn't just Utah to be fair. At the time people were talking bout Burke like he could be the second coming of Chris Paul.

I mean, there are legitimate excuses tonight. It was Gobert's first game back, Hood got injured during the 4th quarter and Quin was using new rotations. Plus, THJ just got hot. A lot of that is on Rodney too.

Quin should try to only play Johnson with Gobert, O'Neale, and Mitchell. That would help cover up some of his defensive limitations. Favors just isnt high energy enough to play off Johnson. I still think Johnson can have a positive impact, you just cant ever play him without Gobert. That's probably difficult with the Thabo injury.
