Insider article, so only showing the Jazz write up. Here is the order 1. Washington 2. NO 3. Toronto 4. Sacremento 5. Utah

5. Utah Jazz

Young stud? Maybe | Cap situation? Getting there. | Likely lottery picks? One (Golden State)

I know what you're thinking: how can the Nets and Warriors not be on this list but the Jazz can? It's a fair question given that they have two near All-Star veterans in Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap. But the Hornets just copied what the Jazz did last season with Deron Williams: trade the superstar for rebuilding pieces. And I'm not convinced that Jefferson and Millsap aren't next on the list. Not with promising bigs Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter waiting in the wings and a host of contenders looking for scoring on the block.

Record-wise, this is a rebuilding organization, too. Forget the final split -- the Jazz were an atrocious 8-17 following the Williams trade. That's a 26-win season translated to a full 82 games season. (I know, who plays 82 games anymore?) The Jazz have a base reinforced with promise in Kanter and Favors and they could be ready to crash the playoff scene in 2013-14.

Their books will be wide open after 2012-13 -- sooner if they unload Devin Harris and their bigs in the near future. The Jazz may be No. 5 on this list right now, but they could be No. 1 by season's end. The seeds are planted.

Meh. Utah is going to the WCF. Probably further. A lot of teams in the West are broken down
Or missing pieces.
Well, maybe not the WCF, but we're going to be better than people think. What most "experts" miss is the Jazz were in a tailspin WITH Williams after the hot, 27-13 start. You can't expect much success bringing in a new coach and new players in the middle of the year, not given the circumstances. The Jazz team is DEEP - and that is really going to help with the compressed schedule. All the players on the final roster are going to see good PT. So Utah isn't expected to reach the playoffs for another 2 seasons? I wouldn't be surprised to see the Jazz finish at .500 and crash the party THIS year.

Yes, it's just the first pre-season game after only a week of practice, but the so-called #1 rebuilding team team, starting off with a lineup of mostly "young talent" (Wall, Crawford, Blatche, McGee), managed to go down 40 points in the 3rd quarter to the rather average, but more experienced Sixers tonight. Maybe there's something to be said for letting the young players learn to win before turning over the keys to them.

I hear you. This team has depth. The second squad is veteran filled and could produce better than most 1st squads. Really unconventional and unpredictable Jazz team. Just wished we could get the headband ban raised so players feel comfortable on this team.

Piece on Toronto was talking up jv as though he is the second comming of sabonis.
So Toronto has done a TOP 5 job on rebuilding because they drafted a stick boy that won't be coming over until next year? Aaand... what the **** else?

This is the hottest of garbage.

CUNNING ABILITY COLANGELO. YOU SHOWED YOUR IMMENSE TACT LIKE YOU DO EVERY OFFSEASON. OH WAIT.

So agree with Numberica. The assets we've acquired in the last year and our current salary cap/LT status is damn near perfect. Okur and Miles expire. Bell has just one more year left after that at a cost that doesn't hurt much.

I think the Jazz should be number 1 or number 2. I think KOC has done a great job making this roster. The potential to be very good is there. I certainly believe the Jazz can make a run for the playoffs this year. In a couple of years I think they have the opportunity to be fighting for the WCF. Look at the current playoff contenders. Most of them are old except for OKC and Memphis. Portland and Denver has taken steps backwards. Looking at current rosters and projecting which teams are going to be good, the teams of the future in the West are OKC, Utah, Memphis and the Clippers. Maybe Sactown but I have serious concerns about the attitude of some of their players. Sacramento could go either way. They have talented players but can they become a team.
