83-84 Jazz Team Photo

I can get them all. This was my original team. I saw a few games in 1982-83, but this was the first year I really started following the team.

Front: Jeff "The Franchise" Wilkins, Mitchell "J.J. Anderson, Thurl "Big T" Bailey (rookie season), John "The Gunslinger" Drew, Adrian Dantley, Tom Boswell.
Middle: Mark Eaton.
Back: Don Sparks, Hod Rod Hundley, Phil Johnson, Rickey "The Fastest of them All" Green, Darrell "The Golden Griff" Griffith, Jerry Eaves, Bobby Hansen, Rich Kelley, Frank Layden, Scott Layden.
(Not an official nickname, but my Dad and I used to refer to Jerry Eaves as "Stop at the line" Eaves. It didn't seem to matter how open the semi-break was, he was going to hold up at the free throw line and wait to set up the offense.)

Great memories of buying $5 tickets in the Salt Palace and sneaking down to the lower bowl to escape the cloud of smoke that hung from the ceiling. I also had a friend whose Dad worked the SP, so if he was assigned to a door, we didn't even pay to get in.

Nice, I thought number 20 was Hansen. Didn't know he went back that far. He must of been a rookie that year?
Yeah, that was also his rookie season (in addition to Thurl Bailey). The Jazz were scouting someone else (don't remember who) in a game against Iowa and ended up impressed with Hansen. Ended up drafting him in the third round and he stayed with the team for 7 seasons before being traded to Sacramento in the deal that brought Jeff Malone to Utah.

I remember those good 'ol days of the $5 tickets. You could get season tickets for under $200! Now, you'd spend that in one game...
