What's new

A bunch of Biyombo game footage videos

I'm not worried about a guy with his body and athleticism becoming a good post defender. What I like from watching him play defense is his mentality about it -- he tracks the ball, he helps, he's offensive about stopping that ball from going into the basket.

The guy is going to be an excellent defensive center, which is one of the most difficult things to find. Much more difficult than an excellent defensive wing. Just look at the salaries. Good to great defensive center? 8-10 million dollar floor. Great defensive wing? 5 million dollar ceiling.

What make him different than Sanar Sene Sene (sp)? Who was an athletic guy but unpolished basketball player?

To repeat my point above, what makes Biyombo unique as a defender when you watch him is he knows where the ball is at all times. Watch KG play defense and you see the same thing. The distinction is Biyombo guards the floor, not just his man. Even good NBA centers just react when the ball gets in the paint. He's 2 seconds ahead of good NBA centers the way he plays. That ability leads him into mistakes (of aggression), he still needs to refine his instincts, and he'll definitely have a learning curve in post defense. But he's a pretty rare talent on defense.

I honestly don't know how you can watch the tape on Biyombo and NOT appreciate how he is altering the game. Are you watching?

Seriously, I would not be bent if the Jazz selected him 3rd. Of course, I'd prefer they find a way to get him at 6-8.

Biyombo looks like he can be a better Tyson Chandler on the defensive end. Chandler is a bit more athletic than what Ben Wallace was, and Biyombo looks to have a better body than Chandler has.

One thing for sure, there's going to be an interesting player dropping down to 12.

Biyombo will not fall to 8. I'd be seriously SHOCKED. I don't think he'd fall that far in a "normal" draft.

If you watch those videos, the teams in the league he played in would destroy college basketball. If you put the top 8 teams in the NCAA against the top 8 teams in his league it would be a slaughter. Like 8-0 or 7-1 and you'd see teams like Duke and UNC just getting blown out. A very high level of basketball without NBA athletes. But much better athletes across the board than any college schedule.

Let's all just admit now, before the draft, that Ford is having an off-year.

It actually makes sense that Biyombo would slide in the lottery if you think about it. Lottery teams need results. For the next two years, Biyombo projects as a backup center who can't score. And there are legit concerns he will never score. If you're the GM of a lottery team that really sucks and you have one pick, you're probably going to look for guys with better offensive upside. We can take Biyombo higher than most teams since we already have the 3. I think a slide to 12 is possible.
