A case against P3

Stifle Tower

Punch Bowl Re-Filler
Looking at the first three pre-season games, does anyone else agree with me that less emphasis should be placed on body bulding/sculpting and more on actual improvfement of basketball skills?

Yes, it appears Kanter has improved a lot due to his weight loss. But most of the others just seem the same - at least through the first 3 pre-season games. I'm disappointed with Favors and Hayward. They needed to really step up their games and it appears they're still the same inconsistent, very raw offemsive players they were last season. The Jazz should be finding off-season coaches to work with all these guys on BASKETBALL skills, not sending them to P3 to weight train and work on other drills. Any form of strength training will be effective. Heck, I could design wieght training regimens for these guys. Instead, they should be out shooting, shooting, shooting and doing more shooting. And when they're done with that, shoot some more. Learn basketball-related footwork, not how to jump up and down off stools.

I agree. I like bigs going to big man camps. Specific and detailed training.

I thought they go to P3 so that when they go on the Jr. Jazz tours at the elementary schools they look like bosses on the chalk hop scotch outlines(I feel like I'm lacking proper hop scotch terminology here).

They're probably working on basketball the other 10 months of the year, I imagine.

I would also imagine they are working on basketball when they aren't in the weight-room. You can't spend 9 hours a day lifting weights.

This thread is fail.

I liked that Kanter not only worked out to lose 50 lbs, but also hired a bigman coach. I think he and his agent did this without waiting for the jazz to set it up, and the beneifts show.

Favours on the other hand, left P3 and home to Atlanta to play pick up games with some 6-4 guy who played in NBA for a few seasons. During media days Locke asked Favours what he had worked on in ATL, Favors said 'just everything'. Locke asked if the short guy could teach Favours post moves, and Derrick said mostly we just played.

Last night on the game broadcast Ron Boone united with Locke saying that Favours needed to develop his offense skills in the offseason, that he needed to have a 'go to' move on the post and needed to learn how to operate out of the post. Boone was critical of Favours saying that through the first 3 games Favors had shown no improvement from last season. And it was limiting how the jazz could use him. As Boone and Locke talked the Jazz kept trying to run the offence through Favuors and three times in a row it failed. Jazz brought Enes into the game and ran the offense through him, and moved Favors to the 'stand over there and don't get in the way' positstion.

If Faivors didn't improve, and isn't going to work at getting bettter maybe he is a 15-20 minute a night guy, not a future All=Star.

I agree, athletes should not focus on strengthening and conditioning their bodies and becoming world class athletes while limiting possibility of injury. Holy ****.

3-4 ways to spell Favors.
