A Couple of Fifth Picks

I noticed a couple of fifth picks. In 2005 when we traded up to get DWill Raymond Felton was the 5th pick and has averaged 13 ppg for his career and 13 ppg in the playoffs over his career. Also another 5th pick was Devin Harris and he's had a pretty good NBA career. In that 2005 draft we also drafted CJ and Whaley. Undrafted players in that draft included Mike Harris, Andre Owens, John Lucas III and Ronnie Price. All kind of interesting but at the same time meaningless.

What is a cotton picking point of this thread. He starts out naming two former 5th picks, then mentions CJ, Whaley and other undrafted free agents. What the hell are you trying to say???

The draft pick is just not about the rank but also luck. You remember Darko milicic, Stromile Swift, Beasley, Jianlian, joe Alexander and now Bennett etc?

Because the talent in the NBA is not just the one element to succeed. Work ethic, coaches, team's chemistry, managers, injuries etc all affect it.

Also look at the names of Ginobili, Dennis Rodman, Malone, Stockton Ben wallace, Okur etc. So our 5th pick can be all star or traded after 2 years.

Here are all the #5 picks in draft history, I think.

Notables:

Charles Barkley
Scottie Pippen
LaPhonso Ellis
Kevin Garnett
Ray Allen
Vince Carter
Mike Miller
Dwayne Wade
Devin Harris
Raymond Felton
Kevin Love
DeMarcus Cousins

Really the #5 spot has historically been fairly decent. Maybe we will get luckier than I think we will.

Then again, I thought we would get lucky in the lottery as well, but good ole 17-chances-in-1000 Cavs got it instead.

Assholes.
