A Couple of "Our" Players on the Transactions Thread

I thought it was pretty clearly rhetorical.
You thought that one word and a punctuation mark was sufficient in order to make it clear you were making a point of some kind, rather than trying to elicit and answer? That you were trying to start a discussion of some kind rather than express an exhaustion or a version of dismay? On JFC?

Ok

Ok
Apparently.

Brooklyn, they have basically had no draft picks in the last 4 years but have managed to pick up talent from the G league and waiver wire and they have a pretty solid team right now

Gobert was a pick purchased with cash and developed all the way from the G League. Marks may have made straw from Dinwiddle and Harris, but those coups don’t even sniff the miracle of Gobert, who was considered a low-ceiling project by almost everyone when he was drafted.

Everyone should be impressed with the job Marks has done with the situation he inherited. But none of it suggests that he could have done better than Lindsey if given the same assets as the Jazz. The top 12 teams passed on Mitchell in 2017, and he is the best player from that draft.

Turning it around, are you telling me that DL couldn’t have done a similar job to what Marks did over the last four years in Brooklyn, and produce a .500 ball club?

Brooklyn has made a team, where their best known player is D'Angelo Russell. The Jazz have obviously done well for their picks, but its debatable if the Nets havent done just as well.

Jarrett Allen probably won't be as good, but definitely get close to Rudy's level at his prime. And he's also just a mid-late first rounder, a "low ceiling" pick. Marks definitely has a higher hit rate than DL. Gobert and Mitchell were huge hits but also DLs only hits. Other years he either missed/wasted the pick/trade for cash. Just look at Trey Burke, Trey Lyles and Tony Bradley. Big question marks on Dante and Grayson.
Marks, on the other hand, has proven to have made the most out of his late 1st rounders/ 2nd rounders/G league pickups. Harris, Levert, Dinwiddie, Allen and Kurucs. In a little less than 3 years, he was able to find over half of his team’s rotational players this way. Simply amazing.

Gobert and Mitchell aren’t mere hits. They are homeruns. Marks only has hits thus far.

The question really is if Marks would have hit homeruns in those same drafts in DL’s position. A difficult question to answer seeing as he has only been a GM since 2016. He needs a Lindsey-sized sample size of opportunities.

Marks has more hits in his 3 year tenure with the Nets than DL, who's had more years/opportunities with the Jazz. But yeah I agree. DM and Gobert are homeruns aka franchise players. Nets don't have any players at that level. But they do have more number of quality rotational players at cheap deals because of Marks' hits. This is especially true after watching our 3rd string/G league lineups getting absolutely destroyed by the worst team in basketball during the fourth quarter tonight.
