A few thoughts and things I've learned about the Jazz

Here are a few things that stand out to me about the Jazz so far:

- Trey Burke has been nothing short of GREAT this season. I can think of maybe one or two games where he didn't make an impact. Since the Pacers game is freshest in our minds, the two passes to Favs on the pick and roll were great - but his pull up J from the elbow to give us a 1-pt lead with 50 seconds left is what made my heart tingle. That's the savage we all saw play at Michigan, and the one we hoped we'd see on the Jazz. I still believe he ends up starting this season. It will be interesting next season when Exum is back, and an awesome problem to have if Burke plays like this all season.

- Since he has taken over as the Jazz head coach, I haven't had one single issue with anything Coach Snyder has done. I wished he would've put Hayward on George earlier in the 4th quarter. I understand why he took him off PG in the first half because he didn't want to risk foul trouble, but I thought he went a little too long letting PG torch and murder Millsap, Burks and Hood.

- It's nice/encouraging to see Burks could still make positive plays even though he had his worst game shooting wise. He had a couple key rebounds and a couple nice passes (one in transition and one in the half court) late that led to buckets. I truly believe he's as important to the Jazz as Rudy, Favs and G-Time.

- Based on the end of last season, and this past Summer League, I think we all put our expectations too high for Rodney Hood. We all have to remember it's only his second year and that he's still learning. Foul trouble is his biggest issue right now, but I hope he adjusts. Obviously the sooner he is consistent, the better. I'm not as worried about his cold 3 pt %. He's got a nice looking shot and that will be fine at some point. Playing good D without fouling is a much harder fix.

- Who knows how long Rudy is out, and if the Jazz can stay afloat in the playoff race, but thinking "Big Picture" here - I am in love with Trey Lyles' potential. Minutes this season will be helpful for him just in terms of getting a feel for the pace/speed/physicality of the game - and finding out his "spots" - but the only thing holding him back is strength. He is going to have to play at least 20 minutes a game whenever he is strong enough physically to not get pushed around in the paint, and proves himself a capable defender.

I don't care that the trend is small ball. If the Jazz have Gobert, Favors and Lyles going full speed - WATCH THE **** OUT.

Go Jazzz!!!!!!!!

I don't know about great but much improved. And he WAS damn good at the end of the game, actually playing like a real PG with those PNR.

I have great trust in DL and QS now and don't really question what they do. I may scratch my head and wonder why, but I know if asked they have would have a very good explanation. Contrast that with Ty Corbin.

I wonder how much pain he is playing with as well: foot, ribs, back.

I agree with this (can't believe I just said that) but it's not a sure think Burke will even be on the team next year. iirc this is the last year of his contract

Did you, of all people, just mixed up Burke and Burks?
Oops. Biff

I'm ashamed of myself. I think that is the first time it has happened. It is Sunday. Hopefully God will forgive me

I think we just need some better backups. We aren't really in danger of falling out of the playoff race. We will very likely get the 8th seed and hopefully win one game against the warriors. They might go 96-0 though, so whatever.

There were only a few of us sticking up for Trey Burks this offseason. Reeeeeeee-DEMP-shun...

My main critique of coach Q is swapping guys in and out before they can have an impact on the game. Trey Lyles has sat the bench for 20 minutes to go in for 40 seconds and come right back out. Sometimes after having 2 positive plays in a row. I know it's a mismatch thing, but Quin will make 7 subs in a 4 minute span sometimes. That reduces the amount of consistency on the court.

My second critique is that we find something that is working offensively and then instead of shoving it down other team's throats, we move away from it in the fourth and let teams come back due to the change. Example? We were bombing threes all over the Pacers with our small ball + Favors lineup. We got a 17 point lead doing it. Then we stopped and changed strategy to have Millsap lock down George. That didn't work. But it took until we had lost a 17 point lead AND overtime before we put Hayward on George. Two minutes of success with the small ball, stretch 3 game and we bury those guys.

Perhaps it was part of Dr. Quinns master plan to get Derrick Favors to realize he has a beast mode he can turn on by getting us back in the close game situation. He wouldn't want to miss the opportunity to win a close game by blowing them out. Subtle critiques, because his management of the team so far has been a CLEAR and PRESENT DANGER to the rest of the league.
