After watching the last 2 games I have come to the realization that the Jazz do not have a potential #1 option. Favors has the athletic ability, length, and size, but i don't know if Favors will ever develop a go-to-offensive game. Hayward is a nice piece, but he will never be a number one option. I might get hated on for this, but i keep vacillating on who Burks is as an NBA player. I am starting to think that Burks will never reach even the modest expectations we have for him. and Kanter is still a mystery to me, and his offense game could end up being pretty stellar, but i am incredulous about his athletic ability. And is it just me or does it seem like he can never grab a rebound-- like his hands are stones or something.

We must let Big Al and Millsap go during the offseason. Big Al because we can't win big with him and Millsap becasue if we keep him, we won't get a lottery pick in 2014. the lottery of 2014 is our biggest chance to find the #1 option that will lead us to the promise land.

Our number 1 option should be a coach who can build an offensive system. Do the Spurs have #1 option? You can have either of their big three killing you in the final 3 minutes or simply run a play and let a scrub make an open FT line jumpshot.

I want to argue with you, but you are right on all counts.

Tony Parker is having an MVP type year. I'd say he's a clear #1 option.
 
Good post, OP. The person who is showing the most hope of being a go-to player among the young 4 would be Kanter, but he's not quick or explosive enough to overcome defensive pressure. He needs to be able to handle a bit and hit pull-up jumpers. Now you know why they keep dumping the ball to Al. I also think if Mo were healthy, he'd be jacking up shots in the 4th quarter.

We've got a great supporting cast though if we ever get that go-to alpha player.
 
If we can get a good PG, then running a pick-and-roll with Favors could work, but he needs to continue to develop his offensive skills.

Burks is a guy who can pull-up and get a jumper off quickly. I'd like to see him get a green light to do that more.
 
The Pistons didn't clearly have a #1 option. We need a guy who will take control of this team. A leader of men. Oladipo's that guy.
 
Hayward can be a number 1 option. So can Burks. The former is far closer to being ready for such a role though. But Burks can be #1 option for the second unit next year.

I'd argue that the Spurs have three #1 options. Tony Parker and Manu can both go iso to create their own offense, and Tim Duncan is absolutely a go-to on the block if you need a basket.

Ya I'd be comfortable with any of them having the ball at the end of the game.
 
But I do agree with what the OP is saying here. It's important to have a guy who can create his own offense, a "go-to" guy...and if you're OKC, MIA, or San Antonio and have more than one, well then more power to you.

That's what I really miss about Deron Williams. He was a "true" PG but make no mistake about it, the guy could score in every which way. That's why I'm not at all opposed to going after a scoring-minded PG (Burks and McCollum being my preference) because we really, really miss that right now.
 
You know, I think Tyreke Evans would be a good buy-low FA prospect. I'd offer him a 2-year deal and see if we can work him into our system. I just don't think anyone in Sacramento can take that team seriously. For those of you who like Evan Turner, Tyreke is a bigger talent.

...I am a MAJOR supporter of your basketball philosophy and frankly, it's the only basketball that is watchable in my opinion!
 
The no #1 option is being amplified by Corbin's half assed motion offense running after his set plays break down. Not much the bigs can do to shine in that portion. Hayward is getting better though.

Oh, come on. Send either of SA big three to the Jazz and they will suck in crunch time because either paint will be crowded or they will be double-teamed off perimeter. They flourish in SA because you have 3 big time players and you can't sag off off them. Heck, you can't even leave scrubs open because they are competent and know their role. I bet Popovich would make Evans a guaranteed basket player off the inbounds play. It's mind boggling we don't have an inbounds play to send Evans to catch the ball near the rim.

You can have multiple iso players who you can drop the ball to and send to work but this is not #1 option then because we also have that in Jefferson and Hayward. It's proven Big Al can easily go one on three cause he is big yet you complain we don't have a #1 option? :)

I guess Hayrward and Burks in iso can break their defenders down but I haven't seen Burks in iso ever and Hayward has had some success when was more or less fresh.
