What's new

A what if scenario......

I think if the Jazz encountered the scenario they had on draft night 10 times, they would have made the move to trade up all 10 times. They would probably pick Burke 8 out of those 10 times and McCollum maybe the other 2.

If the Jazz stayed put at #14 and Olynyk was off the board, I think they really were looking at Noguiera there. With both Schroeder and Larkin off the board at 21, they might have reached a bit for Wolters or Canaan.

In other words, the Jazz did the right thing overall. Things fell into place for them quite well, and they got good value at all 3 picks.

And I like to add the word sustainable.
Very good point.
Just looking at our current situation (and it's a GREAT one to have), Hayward, Favors and Kanter are likely to command big contracts. Burks will be cheaper, but he's also going to get a nice raise. Assume Burke will get a large bump after his rookie contract and the same with Gobert. Then add in two #1's in the 2014 draft. That's 8 contracts right there. If Burke pans out, the Jazz probably have room for Neto on a rookie deal as a backup. Jazz are going to be bumping up against the luxury tax in no time. I think Lindsey will probably look to swing deals with up to 2/3rd's of the expiring contracts at the deadline or with cap space next summer, but beyond that, there won't be room for bad or excessive contracts.

I think ultimately, the Jazz are going to have to move a couple players. But they'll get to decide which ones to move, and they'll extend the right ones at the right amount. The Jazz have good financial control.

Exactly. And we want to keep those who are good values relative to their contracts, not have someone on the books who is overpaid for his talent, position or role. Good franchises will make those decisions; badly managed franchises will overpay for the quick fix and then try to trade those same contracts down the road.

Teague would of never signed with Utah.. No one wants to go to that crazy state. Teague is from the Midwest he wants to be around other black people and Utah doesn't have very many.. Probally not even a soul food spot in slc. Dumb Mormons thinking Utah is a great place,.

The beauty of this is, yes we will have to let one or two guys go, but unlike OKC we have so many assets that we won't miss a beat, unlike the thunder really having no better way to replace Hardens production. As guys leave others will be ready to step in their shoes.

This reminds me of how the Patriots are run piling asset after asset. Let's just hope we can avoid murder and DUI charges, but we are a very well run org. Maybe the best run team in the league right now.

All good points.
