millsap > scola in just every every facet of the game except for flopping and distracting opponents by flinging hairsweat into eyes.

better rebounder, much better defender, more complete offensively, better off the dribble. scola MIGHT be at least an equal passer but that's debatable.

and yes i agree, no way houston keeps 12-16-18 if their dwight plans fall through. they're doing SOMETHING tomorrow, and might be looked at right now as kind of the first domino.
 
I've been telling you guys that the Jazz have been behind closed doors with HOU for over a month .. I hope all this new movement by HOU helps rather than hurts.

I know that Jefferson is not being talked about by the National media as a back up plan but we are all aware of how McHale feels about Jefferson. I get the feeling that Jefferson is like plan C or something close to that. If the Rockets keep Dragic that will really help Jefferson's game.

The real problem is going to be defense. Who will play defense on that team? They will need to keep Camby somehow.

I would be really bugged if SAC traded the #5 or Tyreke (let alone both as was floated around earlier this week) for Lowry and #12 or whatever. That is a giant rip off for SAC. I just hate to see super lopsided trades, especially if it benefits the rockets.
 
Okay...Houston has 12, 16, 18 instead of Dalembert, Budinger, 14.

Not sure where this "stockpile" of assets comes into play. That's not enough assets to get a star player.

Amen brother. Sometimes I wonder what these GMs believe the average value of a mid first round player will be. Dalembert and Budinger were known quantities that could play some. I'd be willing to be that one of those first rounders will be out of the league within 3 years. As is, Houston seems to be doing a lot of mucking around on the margins but unless there's a huge play I'm missing here I don't understand how they're actually adding shippable value rather than just shuffling deck chairs around.
 
i don't think they believe that 12, 16 and 18 will magically turn into a star, guys. the thinking was that if they could get extra picks, package them to move into the top 5, THEN they could get into a position to trade for a star.

as in, maybe 12+18+lowry could get them the kings' pick if they're willing to take back salmons' salary, then 5+16+martin+scola gets them dwight (or a plan B/C guy).

leaves them with a pretty thin roster, but i think that's their plan.

i know you are just speaking hypothetically, but i just don't see any team trading a #5 pick for 12 18 and Lowry. that's just such a crappy return. that's trading brewer, koufos and lowry for a likely high level starter (even possible all star) on a cheap long term contract. i know that SAC may want to trade young for an established vet, but lowry and two additional crappy young guys isn't what they should have in mind. I don't see any team in the top 10 even wanting that package. maybe picks 8-10.

then if they do pull off the trade for a higher pick, houston is without any meaningful assets to make a dwight trade or trade for a star besides pick #5.
why would houston even touch scola? why would any team touch scola? he has a big contract and is getting older and slower by the minute.
what else do they have left? crap like patterson and morris? you would be lucky to even get a first round pick for those guys.

i really am struggling to see how houston is gonna turn their crap into gold.
 
yeah i wasn't actually trying to construct the trades... just saying that's their plan: flip a couple picks with some talent to get in the top 5, then flip a couple picks with some talent to get a superstar. not saying it will work, and no matter what they do they'll have to take back some bad salary if they're going to get a guy like dwight.
