Ace Bailey Hype and Appreciation thread

I told y'all Key would eventually raise his efficiency while many in here dunked on him. I'm telling you Ace will also get there. It may take him 3-4 years, but he will get there.

He has such a solid and fluent technical base for his shot that I would be amazed if he didnt become a good shooter at some point. Ofc efficiency is not 100% about technique, its also about natural ability and decission-making... but I see no reason to doubt Ace's natural ability to make shots because he doesnt care where he shoots from and can make shots from random spots. There are guys who have to shoot mechanically clean shots from certain spots on the court to be effective, and then there are guys that have shooting touch. Ace is definitely a guy who does not rely on extended mechanics or being at a certain spot.

I was watching Ace the last couple of games and thinking what is his current NBA-level skill besides jumping fast and high? Because every other rookie usually has at least one that he can lean on. Also, those are the skills that rookies don't need to invest a lot of their time and training to improve them in the future. Kon has his 3PT shooting and understanding of the game, Kalk has blocking and defense, VJ - his defense and dunking in traffic etc. And the same is true for the Jazz rookies: Keyonte had a very solid passing and FT% in his rookie year, Hendricks - 3-point shooting, Collier - driving to the rim and passing etc. Of course some, like Cody, had nothing going for them but I don't want to use the disastrous Cody's rookie season as a yardstick for Ace.

...and I really could not find any single skill that Ace is legitimately good at right now. I thought about his pretty mid-range pullups but, actually, his percentage on them is way below average for other players who take them at least as often as he does. And, anyway this is the least valuable shot and defenses actually WANT opposing players to take them unless you are DeRozan. Maybe, steals?

Ace needs to dramatically improve in so many areas: shooting from all spots, FT drawing and shooting percentage, finishing in traffic, dribbling, passing, defense, conditioning and physical strength... And I think that he actually will...but, realistically, it may take several years. I just don't think that Ace will magically become much better in all of those areas next year or even a year after that.

Well I'm pretty damn happy with what I'm seeing.
So am I . It's just seems that some folks expect Ace to become a positive and impactful player pretty soon. I don't think it is realistic. If the Jazz want to seriously compete next year and the year after that they cannot simply throw Ace in a starting SG. They will need to find a transitional player for a couple of season until Ace matures.

Ace is barely 19 and it is going to take time. He's extremely raw but I see positives and potential in nearly every aspect of his game. I think he's actually a decent defender but he does get lost sometimes or is a little slow. He seems to have good anticipation and IQ of floor spacing on that end. If you watch he will space the floor well abs be there to help on a lot of occasions but he has also lost his man over doing it.

His handles are probably his biggest flaw but it just needs to be tightened up. And while his percentages need work he can hit almost any shot on the court.

If you noticed the last 2 games he played better once he became the main guy. I think we win last night if they give Ace the ball instead of Collier turning it over. Right now he isn't getting overly involved while he's the 4th or 5th in the pecking order while he just runs to the corner.

I hate to agree with CY but he did bring up Ace being a more athletic Rodney hood and I actually see that as his floor. I think he will be a very valuable piece.

If people are already concerned about a skinny 19 year old's efficiency, particularly with Ace's talent, that's crazy
