I think tonight's game is a prime example of why The Jazz need Memo - the second unit needs a post presence more than the team needs another wing. The Jazz second unit got outscored in the second quarter tonight because they couldn't work the ball inside and had to settle for too many jumpers.
Yeah, Memo makes his living from the outside; but he can bring it inside as well when he wants to and can play with his back to the basket. The second unit is already deadly on defense - they can be deadly on offense if opposing team has to worry about the paint as well.
Okur doesn't make a big enough impact to make the difference that you are talking about. But I do agree we do need some sort of inside presence.
I think this problem can be fixed with proper subs. I think taking Millsap out at the 6 minute mark or Al Jefferson. Than bring one of them back in with the scrubs.
IMO Sloan is a great coach but this is one thing that I think he could improve on. I personally don't like playing all 5 starters all together than playing close to all 5 scrubs together. I think subs should be more frequent and allow for a smoother transition. Rather than a drastic change. It kind of kills game chemistry and momentum.
Putting Okur at the 6 minute mark in the first quarter taking out either Millsap or Jefferson would improve the team I think. Hopefully Sloan changes his rotations a little bit.
