Sounded more like the noise was coming from agents of other players who wanted to make a last pitch to the Jazz. Even if/when the Jazz waive Roger, I don't see them signing another player to a guaranteed deal. The two biggest trading chips are Millsap and Jefferson. And trading either might mean doing a 2-for-1 deal. KOC has always liked leaving the last spot empty heading into the season. If anything, I think it likely the Jazz go out and sign a PG to a non-guaranteed contract until Watson returns. IIRC, don't teams have until Jan 1 before deals become guaranteed for the remainder of the season?
I believe that's how Matthews made the team. Wings were hurt so he was kept on a non-guaranteed deal to start the season. At the deadline, the Jazz obviously picked up his contract instead of releasing him.
As for Roger, there's probably no urgency on his part. He and his agent know there is very little demand. If a team had wanted to sign him for the vet minimum (or more), he would have gladly signed a buyout agreement. I'll bet the Jazz offered him his 2012 salary LESS the vet minimum as the buyout rate. Makes sense now for Roger and his agent to just sit back and try to force the Jazz to waive him at his full salary if the team needs the roster spot or doesn't want him at camp. In fact, if I were Braille, I'd show up at camp and be the worst D-Bag I could possibly be. Clearly Corbin, KOC and Miller have shown they don't want Roger on the team. So force their hand. They could have amnestied Braille, but they didn't. So make them use the waiver system and get a full salary. I hate Roger, but he and the Jazz agreed to a contract. Jazz should just pay him his $3M and be done with it.
