When did I say there was a tell-all defensive stat? Obviously there is no perfect stat for measuring defense. But there are still numbers that support an argument. Of course blocks is a part of that, duh. But a big one is player's output vs. what they allow from their counterpart.

Jefferson played center for Boston behind Kendrick Perkins. When he got the opportunity to start he put up huge numbers. He'll be fine at the C, while Millsap mans the 4. Damn, I'm interested to see how the pick-and-roll looks with those two guys out there. Very intriiiiiiguing.

Height w/out shoes: 6-8.25 (1/2" taller than Booze)
Wingspan: 7-2.5 (1/4" longer than Booze)
Standing Reach: 9-2 (1.5" longer than Booze)

Again, it's common for fans to overvalue other teams' players who they occasionally see while devalueing the ones they see every game, so here's my quick breakdown between Jefferson and Boozer:
Offensively Al's a better low-post scorer and better at getting deep position closer to the basket although not nearly as good of a mid-range game, passer or pick-and-roll player as Boozer. Still, a legitimate low-post scorer who doesn't settle for a fadeaway is a plus. Defensively he also struggles w/help defense and moving his feet but he's a little bigger than Boozer and unlike Carlos, he is a shotblocker (he's not a defensive presence but will use his size and long arms to block some shots).

3 yrs $42 million for a guy with some knee issues isn't ideal, but given the market it's clearly the best option out there, and obvi more appealling than 5-$76 mil. Jefferson struggled last year but hopefully a full year removed from the acl he will be much improved, and the fact he's only 25 is also very appealling.

After such a rough start to the offseason, this was a great save by KOC and may just be the move to keep us in the top-5 of the WC.

I don't think we're a better team replacing Boozer w/Jefferson. But when you factor in age and their contracts, this is a pretty shrewd move by KOC.
 
There is reason to doubt Jefferson on defense as Numberica says. His +/- numbers are about as ugly as Boozers. He also is selfish and wanted the offense ran through him instead of the triangle. Since Minny won 8 games last year, maybe Jefferson was right - the triangle was a bad idea for the team.

What people don't realize is just how bad the offense will be losing Boozer and Korver, two of our most effecient scorers. Thats 30 points a game. Where are the points going to come from? Who is going to draw double teams without Booz? Williams can only draw them if defender respect our other players as threats. Milsap and AK aren't much of a scoring threat, teams wont mind doubling off them. Miles is barely respectable as a shooter, nothing to worry about. Hayward will take time. Okur will be at 70% given the history of achilles injuries and their long recovery time. Jefferson is needed for offense just as much as defense.

And that was when Big Al was 18 I think, he defenitely grew. He dwarfs Booz, trust me.
