Although I am extremely pissed off at our piss-poor rebounding, and lack of offense in the 3rd quarter, one of the few great things about this game was Al Jefferson (other than his soft foul at the end)

He had 4 assists, with all 4 of these being very impressive passes. One that stands out is when he dished it to a slashing Hayward for the layup from behind the free-throw line. Sutff like that is extremely encouraging to see, as our team progresses further into this season. I hope (and think) that Al can eclipse 2 APG with ease this season; lets hope his progress continues.

He is at 1.9 assister per game right now. Hopefully this continues. That would be huge for the offensive flow.

I agree and he would have had another nice one if that one under the basket to Earl had dropped.

The problem now is no one *Cough Devin Harris Cough* is willing to shoot the kick out 3's Al dishes. SOOO many times last night Al would recognize the double and kick to someone, usually Harris, and the rotation back to him was so slow that it would have ended up a wide open routine jumper. Thats what you work 24 secs for; first do your best to get the easiest shot and if not, find the open man and exploit it.......except our open man then just dribbles to the closest defender so he no longer has to be "the open man" and take a shot. Thankfully that leads to the oft coveted "shot clock winding down, off balance heave to the rim".

In closing, yes, I love that Al is passing more and finding open men on the court, now the open men need to do what "open men" are supposed to do.

The Jazz outside shooting is so terrible that defenses take the chance packing the paint with weak side help, which has been eliminating a lot of screen and cut opportunities for Jefferson to pass into. Wings have been starting to rotate the pass out around the arc as the slacked off defense scrambles to recover and this will help Jefferson. Millsap's timely cuts are showing Jefferson can and is willing to pass too.

Fully agree. To me its a testament to Millsap and Al's abilities that we are doing well and winning despite the fact that those 2 are our only reliable offense and operating in that much traffic. Defending the Utah Jazz isn't rocket science at this point, with this team.

I always thought he has been a decent face up passer. His vision goes when he is in his post-up though. This happens for most players though. There are only a select few who really excel at passes out of the post-up.

Since the thread is about Big Al's passing, I won't talk about his...um.. def.. No I won't.

I agree on all posts above mine though.

Nothing to complain about with Al, he has improving his game in just about every way he can (given his physical limitations). At 1.9, Al is within one assist of the best centers in the NBA, middle of the pack overall.

Marc Gasol 2.9 (38 mpg)
Tim Duncan 2.8 (27 mpg)
Spencer Hawes 2.8 (27 mpg)
Andrew Bogut 2.6 (30 mpg)
Greg Monroe 2.5 (32 mpg)
Joakim Noah 2.2 (28 mpg)
Nene 2.2 (31 mpg)
Dwight Howard 2.1 (37 mpg)
Roy Hibbert 1.8 (29 mpg)
Andrew Bynum 1.2 (34 mpg)
Marcin Gortat 0.9 (31 mpg)
DeMarcus Cousins 0.9 (29 mpg)
Javal McGee 0.5 (29mpg)
DeAndre Jordan 0.2 (31mpg, lol?)

Inclusions of Nene and Duncan are debatable, as far as centres in the NBA go. Man, think of what Al's numbers would be like if he was playing in Nene's position with the Nuggets. Everytime he'd pass out of a double team, he'd get an assist at least half of the time. The fact that he's assisting as well as he is, with one of the poorest long-distance shooting teams in the NBA really says something

Being 1 full assist behind with the top is 2.9 is a huge margin. It's like comparing a PG that averages 11 Assists vs. 7.

Regarding his passing.. it is much better this year.. I will agree.

I will disagree about him having a good game last night but thats for another thread.

Nah.
In order for him to get this extra APG we just need our wings to sink the ball instead of passing open looks.

Did Gregg Popavich read Jazzfanz? Did we give everything away to the Spurs in this thread?

Oh, and Jefferson sux lol
