Alec Burks - Why the **** is there no threadzzz

I'm not impressed by Burks ability to rack up 31 points against future Euroleague imports and D-League roster fodder. The key stat for this game for Burks: 0 Assists.
So we can compare him to Harpring? Just wondering what his MLA total is to date. And has he ever eaten fry sauce?

Fixed. And the fact he "attacks the rim" or "makes thing happen" doesn't make his shot selection any better. A miss is a miss, and for a guy who shoots so much close to the rim, his shooting percentage last season was awful. And yes I watched the games, I've seen him play - he takes plenty of ill-advised shots.

Sorry, not I'm just not drinking the kool-aid where Burks is concerned.

We definitely shouldn't get over excited over one summer league game, and his shot selection can be poor, but you can't deny his potential and production.

Maybe we can actually compare them to players they play like?

If we compare them to players that suck, then the players we want to be good, look very good.
If we compare them to their player comps, then the players we want to be good, will look mediocre.

A lottery pick should dominate against the scrubs playing here. I expect more out of him. He is not disappointing me like Kanter but Burks should score 30 just showing up to this game.

He was 10-14 from the field and 10-11 from the line, and he ought to be able to do that every game? I know the competition isn't great but that's a hell of a line.

He would have had a couple of assists if anyone on this team could shoot, don't read too much into that stat.

We're scared. We're frighten by the likes of Almond and Miles. These types of guys have burned us. Bad.

But come on! Burks is showing us he can score, a lot. Let's circle the boners and explode on Alec "Godddamn" Burks.

****.

I'm ****ing thrilled about Burks being on this team. He showed some nice flashes last year. The Laker game in LA comes to mind.
I think he can use that fearless cocky attitude to help in tough games. His biggest concent is consistency right now. The future was
very bright before, and after these silly summer league games.

Yes I am too. And he's coming along nicely.

There was 1 play near the end of the 2nd game of the SL where he rebounded an opponent's missed shot. He brought the ball up. Waved to clear the floor. Called Kanter for a screen up top. He drove to the left, utilizing the screen to lose his man, and went up strong for a layup which he finished against a big man.

That's the kind of play that he could pull off at the end of a game similar to what Wade or Rose would do. He has the ability. He has the confidence. He has done it before. He just has to be given the license to do it. I do believe he's a better option with ball in hand at the end of game compared to Hayward. Hayward still has trouble taking the ball to the hoop & finish or draw a foul IMO. Burks can take it up strong, dunk it or reverse lay up it or he'll draw a foul.

Sorry about the quality - I just did it quickly to show you guys what I mean:

Why pass when you are shooting over 70%?

Yes in the regular season he will need to pass more. But the point of passing is to get the best shot available. Yesterday Burks shooting was the best shot everytime.

There were multiple drives yesterday where Burks pulled the defense on him and had a wide open big man standing there in the lane while he tried to get to the rim around 2 defenders. A simple dish, usually to Kanter, would have been "the best shot". He is a great slasher and I love to watch him play, but another black hole we do not need!

Crackabone fellers.

BTW, yesterday's game was not as big as game 7 of the NBA finals. Just sayin.

Also, comparing every wing to CJ Miles is getting really annoying.

But Kevin Murphy looks like the dumb side of a CJ clone.

Maybe we can actually compare them to players they play like?

Okay. Control R: Burks = (Josh Childress^3/2)(2sinxcosx)(cos^2x - sin^2x) + (3sqrt(y)/2)(sinxcosx)^2PR. Enter.

where:
P=potential
x=monta Ellis
y=Hornacek shooting coach
R=Klay Thompson's Shadow

franklin, I like your posts and all, but I may have to put you on ignore before your signature, avatar and location get me looking down too much on Kanter.

I had to work at the time of the game so i recorded it and just watched it late last night.

I saw about 4 different times where burks drove the lane, drew the defense to him and kicked out to an open shooter who ended up missing a wide open shot. 2 times he made a nice pass to wide open carroll and carroll missed both times. Another one i remember was when burks drove baseline and passed the ball to murphy for a WIDE OPEN corner 3 which murphy missed.
Also there was a play in the game where Kanter passed the ball to burks who was posting up and burks did a nice up and under play for the score, and then the next time the jazz were on offense burks passed to Kanter who made a short jumper. That was an assist but someone earlier in this thread said he had zero assists. Sounds like the people keeping the stats missed one there.

Anyways i saw burks make plenty of good passes to guys who should have scored and didn't which would have probably given him 4 or 5 assists..... besides he had 31 point with 10-14 shooting! Why the hell would anyone be complaining about his game yesterday. Plus i remember at least one of his misses was tipped in by Kanter because the defense was trying so hard to stop burks that they left kanter unattended under the hoop. Oh and we won the game.

No one should complain about burks performance yesterday

As far as I'm concerned, until Jefferson is traded there is nothing more important to complain about.

Burks lead the team to an W and did the job done being aggressive when it was necessary. Oh yes, he's a black hole.

"Two giants, Chris Mihm and Joel Pryzbilla were drafted #7 and #9 in 2000. Impressive statures, both young men stood above 7' and weighed over 270 lbs. each. Chris was known for his excellent back to the basket game a little more than Joel, and both men sported impressive blocking records in college. If they were only given time to develop..."

Yeah, but did any of them score 34 points against a bunch of physically underdeveloped (relative to Kanter) in an All-Star game?

Unsure. What I do know is they are both taller, longer, more refined and jump higher than Kanter's super athletic 26" explosions.
