I think the possibility for progressives and their ideas to see a surge in popularity is a real possibility. Young people are far more open to progressive ideas (universal health care, subsidied Edu, higher progressive taxation, etc). The more trump and his minions push their unpopular agenda the more we can expect a push back from the opposing force.

Which is probably needed. We’re seeing a real strain on rights. Trump appointing and the senate confirming a regressive judge who leads to cutting rights for LGBT or women is just asking for a huge backlash from voters.

You may see a tea party like backlash for progressives in the near future. I don’t think it’s guaranteed but I also wouldn’t bet against it.

Both sides response to political conflict is to move farther to the extremes. People really see this as a good thing? Wow.

I don't know anything about this district or the Republican opposition, but it seems like there is a fair chance the Dems are putting this seat at risk by nominating someone so far left that moderate Dems will go right.

It's amazing to me the amount of support socialism has with the youth. I guess that every generation needs to learn it's lessons the hard way.

Her republican opponent isn't even actively campaigning. She beat out Crowley who raised over 3 million so I think it's a safe bet she's in as long as those folks show up again. Her constituents are the eastern part of The Bronx and Northern Queens; which makes zero sense but redistricting rarely does.

I was somewhat surprised to hear Crowley had been a Congressman for 20 years - typical do-nothing corporate democrat who, apparently, had no relationship with the people in his district. This sends a message to the rest of them - and that's a good thing no matter what you think of her ideals.

Socialism will prevail
