My team features ten hall of fame, all-time greats. 9 of the 10 players were on the NBA 50th anniversary team. . . and the one guy who wasn't (Artis Gilmore) would have been if he hadn't spent the first half of his illustrious career in the ABA.

My team features Magic Johnson - one of the greatest passing point guards/forwards of all time and teams him with David Robinson - one of the best two way bigs of all time. Walt Frazier is one of the top defensive guards of all time, while George Gervin, Elgin Baylor, Earl Monroe and Sam Jones were four of the greatest, most clutch scorers/shooters of all time. Elvin Hayes, Nate Thurmond and Artis Gilmore could all score, rebound, pass and defend.

Between the ten of them, they won 22 Championships, were voted to 58 All NBA teams, played in 88 All Star Games, won 5 NBA/ABA MVP Awards (Magic, Robinson and Gilmore), won 4 Finals MVP awards (Magic and Gilmore), had one Defensive MVP (Robinson) and were voted to 27 All Defensive teams. They also won 6 scoring titles (Iceman, Robinson and Hayes) and led the league four times in assists, twice in steals, twice in rebounds and once in rebounds.

Collectively, they scored 203,378 points, grabbed 93,125 rebounds, dished out 37,896 assists, snatched about 24,000* steals and blocked around 23,000* shots. . . and that's just the statistics that they kept. For half these guys, they didn't have steals, blocks or 3 pointers for big chunks of their careers (*estimated based on minimum averages x games played.)

None of my players averaged less than 20 points per game and Elgin Baylor had a SEVEN year span where he AVERAGED more than 30 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists PER GAME!

For comparison sake - if you add up their best years, my starters averaged 153.8 points per game. Addy's starters for their best years averaged 142.5 points per game. That's +11.3 points per game in my favor. My starters averaged 68.8 rebounds per game. Addy's starters averaged 51.8 rebounds per game. +17 more rebounds per game for my guys. I will admit that Addy's team passes the ball better than mine does. My starters averaged 29.5 assists per game. Addy's starters averaged 33.2 assists per game. So, they scored less and rebounded a lot less. . . but passed the ball a little better to accomplish it.

addictionary's Case:

Ellis' team consists from a lot of my picks from the previous All-Time drafts. Some examples are: Baylor, Hayes, Gilmore and Thurmond. Good job on picking gems.

I this draft, I pretty much have met all my expectations mostly with picks and with a few trades.

This is the exact athletic, shooting, dominant and tough team I wanted to put together to matchup against teams that can give me disadvantage in certain spots. So I looked after being athletically dominant and flexible while being able to shoot.

Most of the guys are self proven, some might be a bit old to a few.

David Thompson is the guy why we have Michael Jordan today. He was the guy that influenced MJ's Air game and he was the poster on his wall while he was growing up.

Tom Chambers is the definition of White Men CAN Jump.

Marques Johnson was one of the tough opponents of Dr J who was an amazing athlete and scorer. This guy still dunks at the age of 60, remind you.

So what happens on court?

Shaq can't find a tougher opponent than the Admiral and Wilt alikes who were no where near giving up on his physical level of play, but at least I can count on his dominance under the rim on both ends of the floor without getting exploited.

Magic also is the 2nd and last matchup that concerns me with Russ-Harden backcourt. Defensively, it will be a problem.

Other than these, I expect to see AD23, Mashburn and Shaq absolutely destroy the opponent on the other end.

Russ-Harden duo showed an insane level of all around game than peaked in last season. So their gathering would be much more dangerous than the OKC years while we look at'em today. Russ is the most explosive PG of all time. Harden is like a piece of butter on the court in terms of scoring. I expect an easy one on offense.

Bench matchups are not too much of a concern to me, having a strong Parish under the rim accompanied by Tom Chambers who can dunk like crazy and also step away and shoot. Marques Johnson can be the perfect athletic SF for the 2nd unit to lead the scoring effort alongisde Wall's unquestionable defensive and offensive talents that orchestrates the 2nd unit. David Thompson can put on a show and make us fall in love with the game again. Considering putting him in with Russ-AD-Shaq-Wall/Chambers/Johnson for the eye candies for the fans during garbage time.

Addictionary's squad is the only one I see that can sorta match up against my four 7 footers, but mine has two stretch 7s to your one

I have a hard time seeing Westbrook and Harden working together very well.

I can't vote in a contest of old dogs vs young bucks. I hope this one ends in a tie, thus deadlocking this silly summer tradition indefinitely. At that point, it will be replaced with new fantasy drafts such as starting five yogurt and ice cream flavors, soups, collegiate basketball players (who's taking Adam Morrison), card games, and of course cheeses.

Lol

AD and Shaq get my vote

Did you miss that time they went to the NBA finals together.

You mean before they were both "the man"? Yeah nothing ever changes over time.unless of course you don't want to consider them in their actual peak (last season).

I really like the Iceman/Magic combo. I really am not a fan of Westbrook or Harden, but I really like the Shaq AD combo. Those two would play well together. Shaq was awful at pick and roll defense though and might not finish games if the hack a Shaq rules are still going. I think Ellis has just enough bigs to throw at Shaq to slow him down and the Iceman/Magic duo ends up being too much for Addictionary's team to handle.

This is pretty close for me so ill think about it before voting.

This is probably the toughest matchup of the entire first-round. I don't love that addy drafted Mashburn let alone is starting him in this competition. Ellis has the edge in starters 3-2 and addy has a lot of high usage players on the same team. It would be a very fun team to watch and he did a very good job of putting it together though.

Yeah and players who onced played well enough together to get to a championship can never together again now that they are better players. It only worked when they were less experienced and dumb!

It's the old vs. the new. Really a clash of different eras. I guess the pertinent question here would be whether we're playing by old rules or current rules as far as being physical on defense. I think that would be the deciding factor.

The old school team would beat the **** out of the modern team in a tough physical game.

The modern team would run away from the older team in a modern spread-floor game.

Agree. Wish this wasn't a 1st round matchup. Both did a great job. And very knowledgeable going for old dogs and ABA players. This was like Hayward choosing Boston or Utah. Tough choice for me. I'll admit going back and forth.

In the end, I went with Magic and David Robinson. Both are pretty unselfish team players. Westbrook, Harden and Shaq would need 4 balls between the 3 of them. Westbrook probably starts yelling at Shaq and Davis to stop stealing his rebounds so he can get his triple doubles.

Man, both these teams deserve to move on to the next round... REALLY tough break meeting up this early in the comp.

Lol that's awesome check it out
