As much as I hate to say it there is some srs underestimating Kobe and overestimating Wade going on here.

Kobe is on Hakeems level not wades. If we are being simplistic and just comparing best players to best players:

Kobe=Hakeem
Magic=Bird
Barkley>> Wade
Mourning< Rodman
Majerle> Billups

Barkley only ">" over Rodman. Crazy! Barkley is two-way player and Rodman is one-way. Barkley was face of 2 franchises. Rodman was 3rd banana.

Is that why he's made a grand total of 0 defensive teams (even 2nd teams)?

Barkley was criticized all the time for being a half-*** defender.

Last I checked, All-NBA isn't only offense:
5× All-NBA First Team (1988–1991, 1993)
5× All-NBA Second Team (1986–1987, 1992, 1994–1995)
All-NBA Third Team (1996)

Umm, there are all defensive teams. Barkley has made none. On defense he was average at best.

For those who didn't read, Rodman will spend a decent amount of time guarding Magic, sending Bird to guard Barkley.

Rodman routinely guarded the opposing team's best player, regardless of position. And Bird guarded 4s all the time (and made 3 all defensive teams), plus he averaged 10+ rebounds for 6 straight seasons, and is bigger than Barkley. The ability of my team to switch up defensive assignments is fantastic.

Bump.

If Rodman is on Magic, then Kobe or Barkley will just take over. Bird may have been all defensive, but he is not anywhere close to a better defender than Barkley is an offensive player. Plus, if Bird has to work on defense he will be too tired to carry the offense, especially with Thunder Dan hounding him all game.

Crazy! In talking about Top 2 guards of all time, is Wade even in conversation? There are people debating Jordan v. Kobe. No one is debating Jordan v. Wade.

Nobody debates Kobe vs Jordan. At least not anybody with a brain.

Anyways, Kobe has had a longer prime, but Wade in his prime was better.

I think prime Kobe/Wade are about equal. But the reason Kobe is ahead in greatness is due to his longevity for sure.

You are severely overestimating Majerle in this one.

Lol Wade had a better prime than Kobe? I dis like home as much as any other jazz fan but come on that's ridiculous

Or look at this way: My best player is better than his best player. My second best player is better than his second best. My third best is better than his third best.

What??? Magic is the best player of the bunch. Bird is second, albeit a close second. Kobe is third and Hakeem is fourth.

If we are basing the player on their best season, Majerle's '92-'93 and '93-'94 seasons are two of the best shooting seasons ever and he was all defensive 2nd team in '93 as well.

I mean in comparison to the player he was lined up with.

Phil Jackson debates it and will never definitively answer. Maybe its just politics, but I think he has a better basketball brain than every person on this board combined.

That's an overly simplistic way of looking at things, but if you're going to look at it that way, how can you not compare Bird (instead of Billups) and Magic? They cancel each other out.

Magic and Bird don't cancel each other out. Magic beats Bird more often then not in big games-- 2 out of 3 finals and NCAA Finals.
