Team ONE LOVE:
PG - Gary Payton / Damian Lillard
SG - Dwayne Wade / Michael Redd
SF - James Worthy / Glenn Robinson
PF - Chris Webber / LaMarcus Aldridge
C - Shaquille O'Neal / Marc Gasol
Team addictionary:
PG - Allen Iverson / Kyrie Irving
SG - Reggie Miller / Steve Kerr
SF - LeBron James / Elgin Baylor
PF - Elvin Hayes / Amar'e Stoudemire
C - Dikembe Mutombo / Artis Gilmore
ONE LOVE's Case:
Offensive Philosophy
This team will play inside-out basketball with the ever reliable Gary Payton running the offense. Shaq & Webber will both feature prominently offensively. They will both demand the ball and score at will down low. Webber can step out and shoot the jumpshot, but he is also a very good passer and will likely give Shaq, Wade and Worthy easy looks as well.
Shaq VS Mutombo in the 2001 Finals, Shaq averages 33 points, 15.8 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks. So we know Shaq can and will dominate Mutombo while both players are in their prime.
Wade and Worthy are proven clutch players, Wade will also handle the ball and make plays for himself and others.
In the 2nd unit there are scorers galore, all are dynamic players that demand double teams: LaMarcus Aldridge, Glenn Robinson, Michael Redd and Damian Lillard. Marc Gasol with his passing will anchor the post. Plenty of spacing with Redd and Lillard are elite 3 point shooters, and Robinson and Aldridge both great mid range shooter/scorers.
Defensive Philosophy
Defense starts at the PG with Gary Payton, the only point guard to have ever won a DPOY. Dwayne Wade and James Worthy provide physical wing defense, and Shaq and Webber are terrific defensive anchors, with Shaq averaging 3 blocks per game in his prime. In the 2nd unit, Marc Gasol the former DPOY will play the pivot and will organise the defensive strategy. His presence and intensity alone makes the team better defensively.
Gary Payton in his prime is considered the best defender of Michael Jordan, and in this match-up, Payton will really relish the chance to stop Iverson as well. He is definitely quick enough to do it, and will relish the chance to get in Iverson's face.
Head-to-head (against each other) in their prime (1996-2002), Iverson averaged only 24pts, 4.5asts while Payton averaged 21.5pts, 8.3assts ... scoring pretty even, with Payton getting his teammates involved much more.
Match-up with addictionary
- Post: SHAQ/Webber >> Hayes/Mutombo
- PG: Payton = Iverson
- Wings: Wade/Worthy < James/Miller
- 2nd Unit: Lillard/Redd/Robinson/Aldridge/Gasol > Irving/Kerr/Baylor/Stoudemire/Gilmore
Addictionary has put together a solid team. But in the post, the Shaq/Webber combination will dominate the Hayes/Mutombo combo offensively. Shaq especially is going to be too strong for Mutombo to contain.. Historically: Shaq VS Mutombo in the 2001 Finals, Shaq averaged 33 points, 15.8 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks... a dominating performance.
Defensively the Payton/Wade pairing is more than a match for Iverson/Miller. At the point, Gary Payton will stick to Iverson like glue and disrupt everything that Iverson wants to do. Wade will have the edge against Miller both offensively and defensively. Worthy with his 6'9 frame will hold his own against James.
Addictionary's team will struggle with inside scoring (Mutombo/Hayes combo), and will have to rely too much on Iverson/James combo to work, both of whom demands the ball to be effective. How will they gel? How will they share the ball? If LeBron dominates the ball and passes to Iverson - Iverson isn't a spot up shooter. If Iverson holds the ball, does the whole team just stand and watch? There is a BIG question mark over chemistry there between Iverson & LeBron.
In summary, the dominant post play and overall balanced scoring + better chemistry should translate to a 4-3 series win.
addictionary's Case:
FRONT COURT
This team has been formed mostly due to great all around skilled players, except for the center position. I needed rim protection and fundamental center skills in there. Pivotal to a teams success. This team is going to have enough shooting to clear enough space for everyone regardless of the line up on court in certain parts of the game.
C - Mutombo's match up against Shaq is tough. He will be worn out, but hopefully will give enough trouble to the big man down low to give room to my cutters. Gilmore is definitely the back up I need because of the effort Mutombo will give in this match up with his size and skillset. He will have easier time against 2nd party unit.
Artis Gilmore Mixtape: [URL[/MEDIAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5EUU9UZWCc
PF - Elvin Hayes has a really good all around game with great amount of hustle against any player he matches. He is renown for his automatic turnaround jumpers and determined battling against his opponents, a little bit reminds me of Barkley in that manner. He is disciplined, and will hit a lot of mid rangers but preferable low post. He has aggressive defense is expected to shut down any of his match ups in this one. He is backed up by Stoudamire, who in his prime was an absolutely beast in regards to athleticism and a shooting skill that became much more later on.
Elvin Hayes...
SF - LeBron James is arguably the most dominant player ever to play the game with insane level of combination of every skill, such an all around game that he can play 5 spots if he has to. My back up SF Elgin Baylor is recognized as one of the best all around players ever to play basketball. He even is considered "the best all around player ever" by some authorities. He has an amazing instinct and IQ for the game, sees the court so well that if you please care to check out at least 10 minutes the video below, you can easily see a combination of Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley and Scottie Pippen with an older style but faster thinking and acting and very good shooting and extraordinarily good passing.

BACK COURT
SG -- Reggie Miller is considered the best shooter in the history. Of course other cases can be created for other players. Heck, some might come up with Steve Kerr, his back up in this team too. Miller is such a force in this spot, that his undying motor gave the Bulls their toughest time in post season history. Jordan said this after the game 7 against Pacers in 1998: "This was the hardest playoff experience of our careers". (from the famous "Defense wins championships interview). Steve Kerr is your man, when you give him his space, spot him up in any side of the line, and make him BANG! Like his student Steph Curry now. He saved Bulls' butt-countless times. He will give enormous outside scoring in his time on court, which is essential to any dominant team when their shooting is off but have players like that to use athleticism to handle the ball and dish it to the open.

PG - Here is another spot that I like to watch. Allen Iverson and Kyrie Irving are unstoppable. I think my line up from 4 to 1 is skilled enough to switch well and defend anyone including PG's.
