Amazing video

I've been sharing this on every social media platform I have, and every message board I can find. I've been watching it over and over on my computer all day. It's so important and everyone needs to watch (and share).

A bit on the cheesy side, although I don't really mind cheese in most cases.

But the video still doesn't do much for me simply because I've never much bought in to the whole digital communication thing. My phone is still a Samsung SCH-u340 that I got in 2007:

...and I've also disabled texting on it (never used it, only ever got text ads for cigarettes). And while I do have a Facebook account, I never actually use that much, either. About the only time I interact with Facebook is when someone invites me to an event through it.

In any case, nice video, but I don't think I'm really caught in that trap.

If it wasn't so late and I had more time to be a snob, I'd talk a bit about hyperreality, which might be described as the broader problem which this video is warning us about. It's an interesting topic.

I'm with you - for the most part - in regards to not being as obsessed with some of the social media trends that have engulfed society. However, the majority doesn't think as abstractly as you or I - especially those 18 years old and younger. As cheesy as the video is to us, I think it should be shown to all kids 18 and younger just for the mere sake of showing them a different perspective.

Social media, like most things, is what we make it. It can be a fantastic tool for keeping in touch with people far away, for spreading enriching videos and inspiring messages. It can also be a great medium for bullying, hate and discrimination. Far to many people let it dominate their lives and we see what the video talks about.

It really is bizzaro world out there. When you're on hikes in the middle of nowhere and you see some Dilbert on his phone....it's just like....it's over. People are gone. Bring on Google Glass and the Facebook Oculus rift glasses and just let Virtual worlds take over.

I really think I'm going to end up in a cave or being a beach bum somewhere in about 10 years.

I'd say the majority of people on this site are like those folks in the video.
