Ankle surgery

A number of years ago I sprained my ankle playin hoops.

Ever since then, my right ankle has been weaker, stiffer, and aches if I'm on my feet for a long period of time (or when it gets cold).

I'll eventually see a doctor...

But has anyone else faced this kind of issue? What did you do? Surgery to remove the probable scar tissue or whatever in my foot?

Same thing happened to my knee playing ball in high school. When I was about 25 it started really acting up and aching, made it hard to play ball, easily collapsed, etc. In my case they scoped it and removed scar tissue and did some repair work on a stressed tendon or something similar (can't remember exactly, was 16 years ago). It wasn't too bad, and I have had much better use of it since then, but I always play with a hard brace now.

Krav has made it better and stronger, I have found, as has P90X. I have really strengthened the muscles supporting the knee and it has paid dividends.

Good luck.

I had a pretty bad high ankle sprain doing the same thing last November. Once I started being active on it again it would get sore after a little while, but it slowly got better. Did you rehab it properly after you sprained it? I'm not expert, but maybe you should look into specific exercises to strengthen the ankle, if you haven't done that yet.

I have the same issues in both my ankles. I broke both ankles twice during my middle and high school days, and since then I've had 2 badly sprained ankles. The last one (about 2 years ago) the doctor told me I would have early arthritic issues with both ankles, which has started up this year. I haven't looked into any surgery yet though.

Wow happens a lot.
my ankles are kinde shot too from playing basketball.
i need to do surgery or some stuff. but my line of work doesnt allow me the down time.

doctor told me to do some excerssies in gym te strenghten the ankles. but i dont like gym/weight exercise. it's kina lame and is for beachmuscles. beachmuscles suck

Oh, by the way, I always wear an ankle brace on my left ankle now. No matter how good it feels. I just got use to it after playing with it for months I feel weird when I don't play with it on.

Yeah, you have to be careful. No one wants that beach muscle ankle look.

Weird. I have hammy issues and at times, knee issues, but never ankle problems despite playing thousands of intense basketball games in low-tops. I never wear high-tops.

How odd that this topic came up. I've been wondering about my ankle for a while now. This past February, I sprained my left ankle. It was probably the worst sprain I've ever had and the first for that ankle (I've severely sprained my right ankle numerous times and broken it once without knowing it was broken till years later). Now, my left ankle will randomly have a bunch of pressure build up and then I will pop it. This never happened before and doesn't happen in my other ankle. I did have an X-Ray when it happened and nothing was broken, but I wonder if I tore some of the ligaments or tendons in there.

The prob with ankle sprains is people don't let them heal. Then the tendons/ligs don't regain elasticity. So they get looser and looser. That's what happened to me and I had to get them re-tightened via surgery.

Yep. I can bend both my ankles over past a 90 degree angle. Freaks the hell out of people when I do it.

One of my surgeons freaked out when they put me out cuz both my feet flopped downward because of zero support. He said it was a "Hey come look at this" moment.

In general, a broken ankle is better than a sprain.

My wife is actually struggling with an ankle injury currently. She was walking down her dad's stairs and he has those metal edges and they were icy. She slipped and her left leg stayed under her when the right flew out, and she slammed down on the steps. She still gives me shot because I ran inside to get something for her before we headed to tthe hospital and it took a little longer cause I had to DVR the Jazz game. This was on November 29th of last year, and here we are, still battling it. We've seen a specialist and she was in physical therapy for about a month, but due to me not having a job at the time and current insurance prices, we are still trying to figure out what to do. Originally, it was a sprain, deep tissue and ligament tear and she tore a tendon. That has all healed, but the specialist we saw believes she has Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, a condition without cure where the nerves do not shut off, and she is in constant pain. Her family doctor believes it may be Tarcel Tunnel, the leg/ankle equivalent to carpel tunnel. We are currently filling out some forms to attempt to get her financial aid through Intermountain Health Care where they will pay for anything, but we are still not completely sure what is wrong and what needs to be done. This happened right after we were married and she feels terrible because I'm the only one working and we're struggling. I simply want my lively and energetic wife back, we both miss it. Best of luck to you in your recovery/whatever you have done. I hope we are fortunate as well.
