Damn. That's not a great listI went through the list of top 50 scorers in the NBA looking for realistic trade candidates. It is slim pickings, guys.
- DeMar Derozan
- Cam Thomas
- Kyle Kuzma
- KAT (IF Minnesota flames out in the playoffs)
- Miles Bridges
- Brandon Ingram
- CJ McCollum
- Terry Rozier
- Mikal Bridges
- Devin Vassell
- Nikola Vucevic
Any takers?

OK, and then what? We will have to spend a good chunk of our draft capital on him. Do you think that the team with Lauri and Vassell would become a magnet for unhappy superstars? Or maybe this duo will turn us into contenders on our own? Or, that we will miraculously hit on drafting a superstar with what is left of our picks?Give me some Devin Vassell.

We are not yet at the point where we know who could be had. We need to see who falls short in the playoffs.I went through the list of top 50 scorers in the NBA looking for realistic trade candidates. It is slim pickings, guys.

OK, and how many players from this list were traded to struggling teams with no all-stars? An injury-tarnished Porzingis to Washington and that's it. This is our realistic type of acquisition based on the actual recent trades.Last 2 seasons we've seen these (near) all-star level guys traded (offseason/midseason):
- Dame
- Jrue
- Porzingis
- Harden
- Siakam
- Durant
- Beal
- Don
- Rudy
+ a bunch of players who are still better than most of those you listed (plus few solid FAs like Brunson and FVV).
Lets not pretend this offseason wont see any names out there bigger than those guys.
How often do struggling teams with no all stars sign up for such bidding wars?OK, and how many players from this list were traded to struggling teams with no all-stars? You can skip steps when you have a billion assetsI guess my main point is that we cannot skip steps and, as a small market team, miraculously acquire a star with our middling pick or as a FA. We need first to find a star by drafting. THEN it could be realistic to find another through trades. And no, Lauri is not great enough to entice other stars to join him. He is a star mostly in the Jazz fans imagination then in reality. He is a one-time All-Star who did not make it this year and probably will not make it the next year either.
We need to get as many draft picks as possible and draft, draft, draft until we have a real, big time star. This is the first step that we simply cannot skip. It may take several years.
