He has one of those magic tents from Harry Potter, but upgraded with a hot tub.

To me the real risk in anything like this is the unpredictability. If this hit while I was at home on a Saturday I think I have a reasonable shot of barricading myself in my house and surviving at least the initial onslaught. If it happened while I was in a hotel in Berlin and my wife was visiting her sister then all cards would be on the table and we would be in chaos.

Good point. As I tell my clients as well as my friends and family (not about prepping, but life in general), whatever you are working on, prepare for the rule and not the exception. Then pray and hope for the best.

Says the guy that thinks he will survive when millions perish. Says the guy whos first post in this thread was a proclamation of how everyone else is doing it wrong. lol

You may not have much use for the stuff in your house but I have used the first aid kit in my truck on numerous occasions. I think if one is well prepared for the more likely emergencies he/she may deal with they will be better prepared for the apocalypse than a dude that has a house in the woods.

PS I also have property in BFE but I doubt I would have a very easy time getting to it if the shtf. Stars sure look nice out there though.

I've got a cave a bit past the Rock Canyon area of Provo that has a bunch of stuff in it now. It's not a survival retreat or anything, I just like to go sleep up there to get away every once in awhile, but I guess it could be now that I've accumulated some gear/food up there over the years. Pretty much impossible to get to if you're not a decent mountaineer because you have to drop down about 200 ft of cliff face. Nobody has touched anything that's in there in the 5 years or so since I found that spot. I bet I could live 3 months with the stuff that's in there now no problem.
