What's new

Another Quin Snyder article

Maybe Quin is trying to send a message? For years these players were coddled by a guy more interested in being their BFF rather than their coach. I say work the hell out of them, toughen them up, and then loosen up.

Great point. And does it really matter if overworking leads to an additional loss or two this year?

No. This is the year to instill the right kind of mentality for what it will take to win in this league. Gobert, Hayward and Exum are already setting the tone for the future. Booker and Gobert are helping to set the attitude. These guys all needed a kick in the *** and they're getting it. Still love the emphasis on defensive improvement, even though it's not translating to the court. Have to believe that the improvement from Kanter on that end is a direct result. Get Gobert and Exum in the starting lineup next year and this team is much, much better defensively.

"I've looked for comps of other teams that are at a point and a place where we want to be," Snyder said. "Whether that be style of play, execution, demeanor, connectivity, all the traits to me that make up a program and the type of program that we want, the fiber, the values. That's where most of my attention has gone."

My favorite part. This guy gets it.

Yep. He's building a program, not a team. A team can get derailed by a single selfish player. A program moves that player out and keeps pushing forward. I like the mentality and confidence that he's instilling in the young guys. They're going to be better served 2-3 years from now for his attention to detail in the moment.

Exactly. I almost hope Booker's out for 8-12 games so that our core eight really gets some nice time to develop both individually and as a unit.

I'm okay with Booker and his role. The Jazz are still going to need to add another big next year, so Quin should figure out how to work the rotation now when it doesn't matter.

Besides that, though, I completely agree. I want these kids out on the floor learning how to play together. Try different starting combos and rotations. Mix and match to see what works and what doesn't. The only guy I feel bad for is Jeremy Evans. He's limited in his game, but he can play off the bench. Unfortunately, he doesn't fit Quin's vision so he doesn't get any playing time. Hey should trade him for peanuts and let him move on.
