What is it about Virginia Tech that attracts this sort of thing? The reports from eyewitnesses I heard on NPR at lunch were very sad. My heart goes out to the families of the victims, and I hope they catch the guy who did it before he has a chance to hurt anyone else and/or kill himself.

An intense search is underway at Virginia Tech for the gunman who shot and killed two people -- a campus police officer and a student -- and authorities have ordered students and staff to stay indoors and secure themselves until the shooter is found.

"We are looking absolutely everywhere," university spokesman Mark Owczarski said Thursday afternoon. A media briefing is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. EST.

State police officers, FBI agents and officers with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are searching the campus.

Rumor is the second body was the gunman himself. If he shot himself, how the hell was the gun not immediately next to him and obvious?
 
I watched the press conference live yesterday and they were beating around the bush regarding who the 2nd victim was, but they did say that a gun was found right next to him. They told the reporters to "Read between the lines."

The crazy thing about this is it seems so random. The officer had someone pulled over in a parking lot of campus and was back at his car running their info when the shooter (a pedestrian) walks up and kills him for no apparent reason.

Also, ther could be more updates... this was all info I gathered yesterday while watching the press conference.
