What's new

Ante tomic coming next season.

The favors abd tomic lineup would be more experienced, but wouldn't have floor spacing.

The kanter gobert combo would have better spacing, but be very inexperienced.

Both combos need to get better at passing.

If it happens, I would be very interested in seeing these lineup combos.

Is 24 mins a night enough for all of them? Doubt they would divide it equally, but...

Someone's probably going to be gone. Maybe even two.

There was an article in the Trib saying that Walt Perrin has declared that Favors is a center, not a PF. The article speculated that this means Kanter may be on the block because it makes no sense that both would play center.

I agree; I think there's a good chance Kanter is gone by next season.

Question is, then, have other teams seen enough in him that they'd value him sufficiently to give us good value in return?

If Snyder is as smart as he seems, I sure as hell hope that he'll start off by using lineups that focus on mismatches more than minutes and percentages.

That was one of my biggest complains about Corbin. Different lineups give you a chance to evaluate what guys can do and how they function together. Corbin just wasn't creative enough to maximize the talent he had and create mismatches that favored the Jazz. Seemed like they were always playing from a position of weakness. . .

I'd like to see that change.

Gobert was raw as ****, but he makes plays. Gobert impacted the game in spurts, and showed ability to alter shots, and finish strong around the rim.

Tomic is a speed bump on defense, but very skilled on offense. Tomic and Favors might work.

If Ante comes over it seems like Kanter is gone.
I don't see that at all. Gobert is very, very raw and Tomic will take time to adjust to the NBA. Still can play Kanter and Favors 30 mins. each, and have Tomic and Gobert get 18 mins. Means Evans loses his spot in the rotation. At the trade deadline, you re-evaluate. If Tomic and Gobert are killing it, then Kanter (or Favors) is expendable.

I saw the word "try" in that phone post, not "definitely." If negotiations with Tomic go well, expect Gordon to be the draft pick (or Exum if he slides), not Vonleh.

@hottttnickkk...do you think Tomic can play SF?

Snyder will bring over Messina, who will then recruit Tomic. Then Exum will fall to us.

I just did 5 minutes of research and I found this video:

In my opinion (which I have no experience at evaluating talent) he doesn't look like a "Poor man's Pau Gasol" he looks like a slower, clumsier version of Big Al. Its only 20 seconds of video, so it's not much to base my opinion. I hope I'm wrong, I've been intrigued by him for 6 years now. His body does look 1000X better than it did when we drafted him.

If Tomic comes over, I think that we for sure are drafting a SG/SF prospect with the #5 pick. Jeremy Evans is more of a small forward anyway. We then either use the 23th or 35th pick to take a back up PG. Depth chart:

PG: Trey Burke, 23/35 pick, Raul Neto
SG: Gordon Hayward/#5 pick, Alec Burks
SF: #5 pick/Gordon Hayward, Jeremy Evans
PF: Enes Kanter, Ante Tomic
C: Derrick Favors, Rudy Gobert

Tomic is not a star. He is a very good pick and roll player. He is a better passer than Kanter or Favors. His defense is meh.

I don't see a problem with making the team better.

Me neither. But we're talking about the terms under which a person WITH OPTIONS AND LEVERAGE comes to play for the team. A point that apparently has not dawned on you.
