What's new

Anyone have a link to Popovich calling out David Locke?

Seriously, If I was a coach or player I'd hate the media too. I'd try and make it so they never wanted to talk to me either. Pop's a genius, and he's always total class when he talks about other teams and players.

Contrast that with Quin Snyder holding a media training camp at the beginning of this season. Yes, Snyder is new and probably understands that it will help him get established if people like him and support him but I think it's more than that. Snyder likes teaching and seems to like people. Pops is in a position where's he's been almost untouchable and doesn't have to play those games but he also doesn't seem to like people who are beneath him that much. Some people just chalk it up to his sense of humor but he's getting more and more brusque with age.

Innocent reporters?? Hahaha.... It's a lose lose situation for just about every coach or athlete in the league. There's a million examples of the media making someone into a jerk or otherwise. Even when only giving boring textbook answers like you suggest.

But in this case, and so many other cases with Popovich, the reporter didn't do anything to make Popovich come across as a jerk. He did it all by himself. He took a simple question and rather than answering it he decided to make it personal. Rather than avoiding an issue he created one. Locke was not trying to back him into a corner, or press him about anything difficult, or ask about his personal life.

If Pops doesn't like the media attention that comes with the being a NBA coach he should be an accountant --nobody ever notices accountants when they do their job correctly. Reporters only ask them questions when a scandal is involved.

I'm sorry that his life is so miserable that he can't hide it, but it doesn't excuse his actions.

Now that I think about it, it is obvious that Locke was setting Pop up with that sinister question he asked.

Or he can just continue to do exactly what he's doing, with complete indifference to those who disapprove.

Kind of an A-hole response on Coach Pop's part. You make $8m a year and coaching the defending champion and you're picking on a local reporter just doing his job???

I reckon when you trade off the mother-load of content he brings and relentless work ethic with his undeniable flaws, Locke still comes off pretty positively of late. His work for the fans on draft day was second-to-none. He didn't stop bringing content and energy for hours.

He's just one of those rare breeds of people that seem friendly, generous, hard-working and still supremely annoying. Dude's lack of self-awareness is baffling. When I think about those borderline psychotic rants he used to go on in defence of Ty and Ty's Jazz... let's just say Ty's departure has been as beneficial to him as it has the rest of the ball club.

He's a jerk. So?
He doesn't like the media. So?
He doesn't like David Locke. Who does?
I will feel sorry for media and sports reporters when I become one. Until then they get paid for a job most would love to do.
.
Locke did this same kind of **** every day to fans when he was on the radio. If a caller disagreed with him he would hang up on them and ridicule them. At least Pop did it to his face.

That IS an excellent point.

Amen.

Locke is a big boy...if he can dish it (being an arrogant douche to callers) I'm assuming he can take it (from one of the greatest NBA coaches ever). I certainly don't feel sorry for him...
