I just purchased an Arduino UNO R3, mostly so I could flash an STC-1000 temperature controller https://github.com/matsstaff/stc1000p but also as something I could use with my son to introduce him to electronics and basic programming. I bought the starter kit from Arduino and it comes with a really good guide for making some simple projects.

Anyone else messing around with these things?

I've had a few slices of Raspberry Delight, but never the pie. You may want to ask UB about that one...

I am but i think 70 post wont cover all the kewl **** you can do with these things

I already have an idea that I think could potentially be marketable, just have to make the prototype and test it.

It would be a way to secure my taps (I have a thirteen year old son). They sell tap locks but they seem inconvenient and I'm sure I'd forget to lock them up every once in a while. This would be a quick electronic system with a PIN to unlock the taps. It would automatically lock then back up after a user defined period of time.

friend of mine who is obsessed with the weather recently finished his complete weather monitoring system. from windspeed, to amount of rainfall, airpresure, tempurature and everything.
i honestly dont see the point. i started building a full house room by room audioset. but threw it in the trash. because now tablets are pretty cheap a few 7 inch tablets on the mounted on walls in room with some bluetooth speaker. and a "nas" with all the audio.

so now i have a bunch of pi's laying around here :D

Unfortunately, living in an apartment doesn't give me much use for one but I have a couple of friends at work who have used them in their homes. My one friend who is an engineer used one as a AC monitoring/ reporting device and it worked out well for him. Another friend in my department used one to set up an automatic sprayer in his and his wife's garden as they were getting too many critters at night peeing and destroying their garden. It worked well for him as well.

The units are pretty ****ing rad.

I've only gone through a couple of the kit projects and used it to flash some temp controllers but it's a cool little unit and I hope to make some of my own projects before too long.
