Are the Jazz comparable to the 2004 Detroit Pistons?

No way I see us going to the NBA Finals unless Kobe gets hurt. But what are our odds to make the WCF? 5:2?

Off topic but this reminded me of a conversation I had yesterday. Would the Lakers miss Kobe or Gasol more? I actually think the answer is Gasol. Though Kobe is the better player.

I disagree. If Gasol goes down, Odom could step in at the 4 and they also have some bodies off the bench like the Artist formerly known as Theo Ratliff as well. They also still have Kobe's presence on the court to calm the storm and hit the big shot when it's needed.

Without him though, who will the team turn to. Gasol? Could he hack it with the pressure on, knowing it's all on him in that moment? Who would draw double teams or even get Gasol the ball? Fisher? Who would they have to truly create their own shot from the perimeter? Odom? Artest? Without Kobe, they lose their swagger and that guy who's an assassin and rips our hearts out. Without Gasol, Kobe would get guys like Bynum and Odom, et al, to step up. At least that's my opinion.

I think we are similar in that we don't have a single standout like Kobe, MJ, etc., and will require a full team to succeed.
i think we are similar (from a mini pre-season glimpse) to be an excellent defensive team.

But from the player-to-player matchup i'm with Twin Towers.

on the other note, Kobe (the guy i hate most to see, watch, look at, hear, listen to comments about) is the MVP of the league and Gasol is not close. its like Jordan and Pippen. With MJ the Bulls win 65 games a year. With Pippen they won 55, with neither they won 20. Pippen is therefor with 30 wins and Jordan is worth 10... bad math of course.

Ummm...no. The 2004 Pistons held their opponents to 84 points per game. The Jazz to still give up in the high 90s this year.
