Artists Leaving Spotify

At least 3 largish artists (Xiu Xiu, Deerhoof, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard) have announced they are removing their music from Spotify. The Spotify contracts aren't with the artists directly, usually, but with the record company, so it can take some time/work to get it all pulled, but...

This is happening due to the revelation the Daniel Ek, the CEO, has invested in Helsing, a German AI murder drone company.

Who will be the first really MAJOR artist to follow the exodus?

AI murder drone?

Should I be concerned?

Maybe Pearl Jam but I doubt it.

Whew! I was worried that AI murder drones would be a problem, but sounds like I've got nothing to worry about.

****! I just remembered my wife is Hispanic, well half Hispanic. That's probably enough. This sucks because open enrollment just ended and I could have upped her life insurance.

Yeah Im going to unsubscribe soon and move over to Apple Music. Spotify is more evil than the standard evil corporation.

I was really excited by the idea of Spotify when they were trying to break into the US market, but I never actually gave them a dime - I have a free account, but almost never use it. I use Youtube Music, mostly because I had a whole bunch of rare/unavailable stuff on the old Play music, and this let me bring those over with no trouble. Also, ad-free YouTube.

Wikipedia has a pretty good list comparing the services, but it doesn't talk about things like the algorithms they use, which is honestly pretty important.

I have never had Spotify, or apple music, or YouTube music, etc.
I just use Pandora, the free version.

Aussie is literally his only personality trait.

Only personality trait!!! You son of a bitch, I've got ****ing layers like an onion!!! You wizard ****!!! I've kicked men to death for lesser insults!

By they way, I'm from the Peoples Republic of Victoria not Australia.

I used to use the pay version, but I got tired of only being able to do mixes, I couldn't stream full albums. Also, I hate ads.

When i moved out of home for COVID the first thing I did was buy a little stereo so I could listen to the 10 or so albums i took with me, and hook my iPhone up to it. My iPhone died and I was unable to fix it (long story) so i lost my 80 gig digital library so i was kinda ****ed. I only had an iPhone for iTunes, I didn't even have a sim card in it.

Then the guys from work introduced me to Spotify, so much more convenient I've never looked back
