Available Head Coaches

I'm not saying fire Ty straight away, I think we should at least give him half of this season to prove himself. Having said that, if we went something like 10-23 at the half way mark would any of us consider the option? How about if we finished 20-46?

Besides that, I was wondering, who are head coaches that we could say are definitely better than Ty who are available anyway? Over the past few years decent head coaches have been snapped up: Adelman, Thibodeau, Avery, just to name a few.

JVG? I don't think he'll be interested in Utah. Hubie? He's retired. Who do you guys think might be a good fit and is a realistic option for us say by the end of the season if things don't improve?

Half a season? Give him 2 seasons at least.

Last night they had a chart showing the Jazz head coaches and the Lakers head coaches since the 89-90 season. There were about 12 names for LA and only 2 for Utah. I have to admit I liked seeing that on Utahs side.

I've never liked promoting from within to someone with no experience.

I am from Indianapolis and we did that with Caldwell (Colts) and look how that turned out. He was supposed to be a top rated assistant.
He is dumber than a doorknob.

What a lot of people do not realize is at LEAST half the NBA skill in coaching is all mental. At this level you better know X and O's.
Ty seems a little short on X's and O's let alone the mental part.

I say we coax Zen Master Phil Jackson out of retirement for 5 years and get some rings :)

:cool:

I mean this couldn't have just been said in the other 15 fire Corbin threads?

Chitown isnt here to get irate so I will try my best...

"Hurt feelings? Get over it! Ty should be deported to a random third world country of my choosing." lol

In response to Udflyer I didn't mean the promoting within just that we have not had 15 coaches in the last 20 years. I like a sense of stability. Of course that comes with choosing the right coaches. The jury is still out on Corbin.

The chart showing the number of championships is even worse.

Not saying we need to fire Corbin immediately, but he hasn't done anything to prove himself yet. Last night he was pretty brutal. Hopefully he learns and grows as these young players learn and grow.

Still waiting on suggestions.. may be with all the good ones taken up in the past year, it's best we keep going with Ty after all..

I think Corbin should have at least 1 year before he gets sacked. So far his resume is poor but we can give him some break about last season. This season is different. I do not think anybody really expects Jazz to make playoffs, so if they finish with 25-30 wins it is what it is. Plus it depends how team plays, if there is potential and we are playing promising, current, passing style team basketball then you can tolerate loses while team is young. But if they look pathetic all season then he needs to be replaced.
Now who could replace him properly? I liked Adelman but he is gone. J.Van Gundy? He is smart but I do not think is coming back to coaching. Maybe D.Blatt? He is arguably the best coach in Europe.

I wish we hired Doug Collins before the Sixers last year. He's great with young players and turned that team around within his first year.

Sloan = 0 championships
Ty = 0 championships

Seems like Ty should at least get his full contract before the talk of firing him gets started. He has had a lot of crap to deal with since becoming coach. Besides the fact there was no summer camp and two preseason games. Changing the coach would be ridiculous at this stage. Many of you guys are still crying over the retirement of Jerry, even though Jerry should have retired when Stockton and Malone left.

I know he i snot available but I would like to see Chicagos coach here in Utah. From everything I have read he is defense oriented and has the players respect. The Jazz could use that.

He deserves at least one entire season. You could argue that even after this one that he hasn't had a fair chance (massive roster turnover with an abbreviated training camp, pre-season, regular season, and too many games to have regular practice).

Everyone needs to calm down and realize how spoiled of a fanbase we are. Especially considering the market size. Things like this take time, and if the worst thing that can happen is the Jazz might get TWO lottery picks in what's supposed to be a great draft, then fine.

Spoiled is right. The fan base has not really had to deal with something like this before. The had what? 1 down season after Malone/Stockton retired? This whole new coach and rebuilding are completely alien to most fans. They are accustomed to a good team.

Corbin deserves at least one season and at max one season. If we wasted 2 full seasons on him and figured out he is crap after all then we are into risks of losing opportunity window with all our young guys losing valuable time of growing in a system as a team. The ones that are great competitors may get tired of losing and either get burnt out or seriously start looking outside when off their rookie contracts.

Utah had years of opportunity to recruit Tom Thibodeau, if they hadn't been so loyal to Sloan, despite clear evidence of his losing touch with the team, despite his going against his own philosophy of insisting on defense, and despite the notion that few if other teams in the history of team sports have ever given a coach a free pass like Sloan got.

And now that he's gone, we're starting to uncover how Sloan's sometimes irrational influence on draft picks resulted in choices that were detrimental to the team.
